[edit]From Middle Dutch tôveren, from Old Dutch *tōvaron, from Proto-West Germanic *taubrōn, from Proto-Germanic *taubrōną. Equivalent to tover (“magic”) + -en. Cognates include German Low German tovern, tövern and German zaubern.
