[edit]Etymology unclear, possibly from Proto-Germanic *fagraz (“fair, beautiful; proper, suitable”), thence Old Norse fagr, Old Swedish fagher and Gothic 𐍆𐌰𐌲𐍂𐍃 (fagrs). Compare Finnish vauras and Karelian vauras.
