Etymology
[edit]kan (“to see”) + -la (“from”): "from seeing".
Calque of Tibetan བལྟས་ན (bltas na), from the verb ལྟ (lta, “to see”). For an identical but unrelated semantic shift, compare Korean 보다 (boda).
