[edit]Learnedly, from Ancient Greek εὔχομαι (“pray, wish”),[1] from Proto-Hellenic *eukʰomai, thematized from Proto-Indo-European *h₁é-h₁ugʰ-tor, reduplicated present from *h₁wegʷʰ- (“to promise, to praise”).
