[edit]From Middle Persian 𐭥𐭠𐭭𐭢 (ʿʾng /vāng/), probably from Proto-Indo-European *wṓkʷs (“voice, speech”).[1] Akin to Old Armenian վանգ (vang), an Iranian borrowing.
