Recent renames
[edit]A couple of days ago, the Verkhovna Rada renamed a bunch of localities and administrative divisions, for example, Chervonohrad to Sheptytskyi. At least those which refer to the localities controlled by Ukraine are clearly uncontroversial. Can we now move the articles to the new names, or should something else happen? Ymblanter (talk) 08:33, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me, though I'm having some trouble finding a complete list of the specific places that were renamed, which would be really useful for editors. HappyWith (talk) 16:42, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- As it always happens with Ukrainian topics, users with a low number of edits started to move the articles withuot having any respect to this discussions. This makes the discussion moot. I will now move whatever I can find. Ymblanter (talk) 21:10, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Anything which is currently controlled by Russia can not be moved without any discussion.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:11, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
China and the Russian invasion of Ukraine
[edit]It would be helpful to get some additional eyes on the lede of China and the Russian invasion of Ukraine as there may be some WP:FALSEBALANCE there that needs work. - Amigao (talk) 01:12, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
Need someone to check my edit
[edit]I recently reverted an IP user on the All-Ukrainian National Congress article a few times before they explained themselves, but it got me curious. First, were they correct in their statement that the names they changed were "romanized falsely"? And second, I decided to fix up the references cited. Before, they only showed the title and author in Ukrainian Cyrillic, but I used Google and Google Translate to find links to the books and to translate the names of the books and their authors. Could someone double check my work and tell me how good/bad of a job I did at that? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, this is my first time retrieving foreign language sources. Sirocco745 (talk) 08:26, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- What I am really worried about is that the text (which is currently in the article) contains references in the format [1]. It most certainly means it was copypasted from an external source and likely is copyrighted (in which case it must be removed and possibly revision deleted) but unfortunately I do not have time to investigate right now. Ymblanter (talk) 10:32, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ohh, that's a good point. I'll double check the copyright on the text real quick and I'll get back to you on that. Sirocco745 (talk) 00:22, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Discrepancy in constitution versions from different sources?
[edit]Hello, I came from the Next Ukrainian parliamentary election article, where I saw this text: "According to Article 77 of the Constitution, regular elections to the Verkhovna Rada (the parliament of Ukraine) take place on the last Sunday of October of the fifth year of parliamentary powers. Thus, if not for the war, the regular parliamentary elections would have taken place on 29 October 2023."
However, I noticed that the Council of Europe text as well as Wikisource quote Article 77 of the Constitution as below:
Regular elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine take place on the last Sunday of March of the fourth year of the term of authority of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The only reference to October I can find is in Article 103, which is about presidential elections:
Regular elections of the President of Ukraine are held on the last Sunday of October of the fifth year of the term of authority of the President of Ukraine.
(all emphasis mine)
However, I can't believe the above are correct because all sources seem to take for granted that if not for martial law, parliamentary elections would have been scheduled for October 2023 and presidential elections for March 2024, not the other way around. The translation provided by the Verkhovna Rada website supports the idea that the COE text and Wikisource are wrong:
Article 77. Regular elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall be held on the last Sunday of October of the fifth year of the term of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Article 103. ... Regular elections of the President of Ukraine shall be held on the last Sunday of March of the fifth year of authority of the President of Ukraine.
I don't know if there have been constitutional amendments that explain this discrepancy, or if the COE text and Wikisource page (which might be derived from the COE text?) are just wrong. If there are incorrect versions of the Constitution floating around, I think we would want to note that and be careful to only use the official Rada version, as I've seen many links to the COE and Wikisource versions.
I'd be grateful for any insight. Thanks! Helpful Cat (talk) 19:02, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right about the correct version, the only insight I can give is WP:FIXIT :) Alaexis¿question? 23:01, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Draft:Yury Yuriyovich Shikula
[edit]Ymblanter, I came across this draft a few days ago in a rather incomplete state and have made some edits. However, as a non-Ukrainian speaker, it is challenging for me to fully assess the accuracy, especially regarding the title: is it Yury Yuriyovich Shikula or Yuriy Yuriyovych Shykula. Also, I removed some content[1] from the awards section, as it appeared to pertain to a different individual with the same name. Could someone please review this draft for accuracy? I am particularly curious about this draft as it seems potentially notable. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 14:44, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
