A new Oxbridge user box

Mrh30...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Hi Mrh30. I made that comment because I believe that the person who closed the discussion did so properly, while the arguments to delete were strong, I do not believe you could say there was a consensus to delete the article. Had I come across the discussion before it was closed I probably would have suggested a delete/merge along much the same line as you did, however discussing the merits of the article is not what DRV is about, it is about assessing whether the process was followed correctly, and I believe it was. Steve Fairburn's Bust

Hmm, I don't think that a relief profile qualifies as a bust: it's not the "head, shoulders, and chest" per the OED. A bust is a complete (in the round) sculpture of the head, neck and some of the shoulders/torso, per the relevant wiki (which also shows some examples). The thing on the Mile Post is, I think, a plaque using Bas-Relief. The Boat Race web site is undecided as to whether it's a bust or a carving. Actually, it turns out that my university library has (or at least claims to have) a copy of John Venn's Alumni Cantabrigienses so I guess it should be possible to fill in the missing forenames. I had a spare hour yesterday afternoon so I had a look for it, but couldn't find it - and neither could any of the librarians I spoke to (there's been some rebuilding work done recently and consequently a lot of books have been moved around). You need to check with the FLC instructions. I'm no longer a director (as of this morning!), just a mere mortal. Starship Troopers 3 Heads-Up

You seem to have paid some attention to the page, so I just wanted to clue you in that the editor from Starshiptroopers3.net is still adding positive-only reviews from questionable sources, not to mention outright lifting entire pages of text from the few (i.e. 2 or 3) reliable sources -- at the moment, as a passerby, I just reverted it to the old Rotten Tomatoes "mostly unreviewed" version, and left the excised portion in the talk page of the article.

I don't have the time to fix all the sources and qoutes on my own at the moment, but I tried to help a little; hopefully you can keep an eye on the developments, too (i.e. the bots don't zap me for being anonymous at the moment and "vandalizing" the page. -- living in Vienna, Austria for a couple months, and didn't want to sign in on my U.S. account (no idea how wiki handles that sort of thing)

Boat Race layout

Hi - I can see you are in the middle of reworking the page. I'm looking at it on a 1600x1200 screen and I wonder whether pushing the course down and pulling the history up has worked - partly because the course map gets separated from the course list, but also because some of the inline images don't seem to work so well. Objective was really to try and bring together some of the sections that were scattered across the article and give it a bit more of a coherent structure. Generally I would have thought that the history of the event was more 'generally interesting' than the course, which is quite a specific factor. The 'average reader' arriving at the page is, I believe, more likely to be after the history than exact details of the course. Yes, moving the course map certainly helps. In the course section, the para beginning "The race is for heavyweight eights" seems a bit out of place - do you think it should go (a) at the beginning of the course section or (b) somewhere in the lead para? - Pointillist (talk) 16:37, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (File:RedgateLogo.gif)

So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.

Progress report

We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.

Participation
GOCE March 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.

Progress report

Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

New coodinators

The Guild of Copy Editors – May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive


The Guild of Copy Editors invite you to participate in the May 2011 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive began on May 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on May 31 at 23:59 (UTC). The goals of this backlog elimination drive are to eliminate as many articles as possible from the 2009 backlog and to reduce the overall backlog by 15%. ! NEW ! GOCE drive invitation

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".
