Marathon Petroleum Corporation Logo Assistance
[edit]Hello, I noticed that you have made some edits to the Marathon Petroleum Corporation page in the past and I was hoping you could help me replace the logo that is there now. The logo for branded Marathon retail gas stations was updated recently but not the the corporate one. "...the retail brand debuted a new Endurance image, including a retooled logo..." https://csnews.com/marathon-petroleum-goes-live-new-retail-brand-campaign https://csnews.com/marathon-unveils-new-image-branded-gas-stations
The accurate logo can be found on the Marathon Petroleum Corporation website here: https://www.marathonpetroleum.com/Newsroom/Corporate-Logos-and-Standards/ Is this something you would be able to help with? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:241F:9AA:2CD6:28C3 (talk) 15:12, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:241F:9AA:2CD6:28C3, hi! I don't really see the difference in logos. Regardless, the place to go is Wikipedia:Files for upload to upload the new logo. Then once it gets uploaded, you can replace the current one in the article with the new one. DOes that help? — Qwerfjkltalk 15:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, this should help.
- The logos are very similar but if you'll notice the text in the logo is all caps for the refinery business, while the retail brand uses some lower case letters.
- In any case, this should help me.
- Thank you! 2601:19B:8301:B5A0:1F7:3086:7200:76E8 (talk) 19:09, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Great! Happy to help. Qwerfjkltalk 20:14, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
The Lockman Hole
[edit]I'm considering making an edit to the Lockman Hole article (Lockman Hole), after a brief mid-video interview with Jay Lockman himself where he voiced a preference for the name "Lockman Window".
I thought it might be a good courteous gesture of this community to change the beginning of the Lockman Hole article to read something more like "The Lockman Hole, or Lockman Window, is an area of the sky in which..."
Do you think this would be appropriate? Necessary Addition (talk) 20:00, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- I should add the source, timestamped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWJBAGrG0ms&t=1474s Necessary Addition (talk) 22:06, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Necessary Addition, it would at least be worth creating a redirect at Lockman Window (which I've just done). I'm not familiar with the subject, so I don't not how common the term is - if it's unlikely to be known to most people who know the topic, it's probably not worth including - but feel free to be bold and edit it yourself — Qwerfjkltalk 15:42, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of HH16 (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on HH16 (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:33, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Category:Incest in Greek mythology
[edit]Hi Qwerfjkl, earlier this year you closed the deletion discussion for Category:Incest in Greek mythology. [1] While I was the only editor in that discussion in favour of keeping the category, I don't think others really addressed my argument meaningfully, and I disagree with the category's deletion. I'm not really suggesting that you interpreted consensus incorrectly (I don't think you did), but rather that I don't think there was good reason for deletion. I was unsure whether WP:DELREV was the correct venue for this (as that seems to be for arguing that the closer misinterpreted consensus), so contacting you directly seemed logical. – Michael Aurel (talk) 01:28, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Michael Aurel, I think the best thing to do would be to start a discussion at WT:CFD and ping the participants to that discussion to see if you can work something out. — Qwerfjkltalk 07:54, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah ok, thanks, so there isn't an official process for this then. I might consult with the editor who created the category first, as since I left my initial comment here I've noticed that in the last month or two they created a similar but distinct category, Category:Mythological people involved in incest, but assuming they think it's necessary, I'll start a discussion at WT:CFD as you've recommended. – Michael Aurel (talk) 10:24, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-46
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- On wikis with the Translate extension enabled, users will notice that the FuzzyBot will now automatically create translated versions of categories used on translated pages. [2]
- View all 29 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the submitted task to use the SecurePoll extension for English Wikipedia's special administrator election was resolved on time. [3]
Updates for technical contributors
- In
1.44.0-wmf-2
, the logic of Wikibase functiongetAllStatements
changed to behave likegetBestStatements
. Invoking the function now returns a copy of values which are immutable. [4] - Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. The API will be rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The impacted endpoints include getting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content. These changes will be available on testwiki later this week, with other projects to follow. This change should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints should verify behavior on testwiki, and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket.
In depth
- Admins and users of the Wikimedia projects where Automoderator is enabled can now monitor and evaluate important metrics related to Automoderator's actions. This Superset dashboard calculates and aggregates metrics about Automoderator's behaviour on the projects in which it is deployed. Thanks to the Moderator Tools team for this Dashboard; you can visit the documentation page for more information about this work. [5]
Meetings and events

Hello, how do I request that a page be made about a certain musician? --Hi Im Xi (talk) 21:29, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Hi Im Xi, you can try Requested articles, remembering to include refiable sources (and making sure they're notable), but it's unlikely anyone will write it themselves. Your best bet is to learn how to write the article yourself. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:34, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
New Linter patterns
[edit]If you have time to run Task 31 against more patterns, I have a new batch collected from the signature submissions page in my sandbox. If you run a test edit against each of the patterns, I'll be happy to check the edits. I have moderate confidence that I got them right, but something could definitely have gone wrong with one or more patterns during the copy-paste-find-replace-concatenate process. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:57, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ - Nice catch. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:06, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, I checked over the rest and they looked good. When I ran the bot, I noticed Talk:Meal, Ready-to-Eat/Archive 1 (Diff ~1257216016) where the replacement actually introduced an error. Any idea how best to handle this? I suppose adding a space at the end of the find & replacement strings would work, though there might be other cases that have similar problems. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:02, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, include a trailing space in the "find" and the "replace" string for the Bahamut signature. I do that all the time in my regexes. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, okay, I'll add the trailing whitespace for that and any other replacements that look like they could be vulnerable to this kind of problem. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:15, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I scanned through the rest of the entries for similar problems. It looks like the string for "DCI2026" needs a trailing space in both strings also. The rest appear to be fine, at least with respect to this potential error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:16, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've made the changes. I think I'll run the batch tomorrow, I just need to do a bit more error checking. Also, one of the replacements uses the search
insource:/\[\[User:Yellow Dingo\|\<b style\=\"color:\#FFCC33\">Yellow\<\/b> \<b style\=\"color:brown\">Dingo]]'''/
which returns no results. The total number of unique titles found is 24,437. Qwerfjkltalk 21:36, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- It appears that the Yellow Dingo signatures have been fixed; they were in a previous batch and it looks like I neglected to remove them from the table after that run. No worries! Thanks in advance for running the task; I look forward to tens of thousands of fixes, and I'll have another batch once that has run. There were so many this time that I didn't go digging for more patterns that weren't already listed on the table. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:06, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, I've started the batch. The code needed a little modification because it was stripping the replacements. Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you let me know what adjustments you needed to make, I can try to fix my process for generating the strings for you. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:20, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Are you taking bot requests?
[edit]Hey Qwerfjkl, I hope you're well. I was wondering, are you taking bot requests at the moment? I was looking for someone to schedule a regular task, perhaps once a week, to add Template:WikiProject National Football League to relevant pages which don't have it yet. Every now and then I use AWB to do so, and I think it'd be a pretty straight forward and reasonable bot task. I run a recursive search against Category:National Football League players by team, skip talk pages which have "WikiProject National Football League", "NFLproject", "WikiProject NFL", "WPNFL", or "WP NFL", and then manually add the WikiProject template. Assessments typically come later and I wouldn't be asking the bot operator to try to code any of that in, as my primary goal to simply tag them as relevant to the WikiProject. Thankfully, based on Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League/Assessment, we're pretty good about going back around and adding a rating (though importance not so much), which is why I don't think this task would be in vain. Entirely understandable if you're not interested in taking on another task, but I know you're great at what you do and I appreciate your work, so I thought I'd make this my first stop. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh, I can probably get round to this on the weekend. Have you had a discussion on the wikiproject talk page? - That would make the brfa a bit easier. I do have some code for this left over from WP:PIQA that I could probably repurpose for this task.
If desirable, I could use ORES for article quality ratings, perhaps restricting it to stub assessments which it's pretty accurate at. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- No rush! I'll start a discussion at the WikiProject about it. I kind of didn't even think it'd be necessary but that's an ignorant thought on my part. Just because I do something manually sometimes doesn't mean there shouldn't be consensus that a bot can take over :P I think with ORES restricting to stub might be a great idea, so I'll include that when starting the discussion. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:27, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's probably not strictly neccessary, but BRFA is perpetually backlogged, so it's nice to make BRFAs as clear-cut as possible. Qwerfjkltalk 21:29, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, I've been away, but I've started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League#Autotagging pages in player categories for the NFL WikiProject. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:17, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

Task 31 oddities
[edit]This was an odd one. No lint errors at all on the page when it edited, but the bot still changed X to Y, and created an unclosed italics issue due to the closing italics being after the date/time and not matching the sig pattern. Thought it was worth noting that it created an issue in case that's something that can be prevented. If it's just a odd fluke, no big deal.
And I also see that the bot is only fixing half of Timbouctou's signature. It didn't fix the missing closer italics on the Timbouctou userpage link portion: (example 1 and example 2). If that's intentional and it'll fix the other part later, ok. Just found it surprising. Zinnober9 (talk) 00:41, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- The first issue is due to the user putting tags after the timestamp. I've just modified their other signatures that do this. The second problem is simply because I don't have that replacement listed; I've added it now. Qwerfjkltalk 11:56, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

- @John Pannozzi, you added

Hello everyone,
The next language community meeting is coming up next week, on November 29th, at 16:00 UTC (Zonestamp! For your timezone <https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1732896000>). If you're interested in joining, you can sign up on this wiki page: <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Language_and_Product_Localization/Community_meetings#29_November_2024>.
This participant-driven meeting will be organized by the Wikimedia Foundation’s Language Product Localization team and the Language Diversity Hub. There will be presentations on topics like developing language keyboards, the creation of the Moore Wikipedia, and the language support track at Wiki Indaba. We will also have members from the Wayuunaiki community joining us to share their experiences with the Incubator and as a new community within our movement. This meeting will have a Spanish interpretation.
Looking forward to seeing you at the language community meeting! Cheers, Srishti 19:54, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Will be better if a bot can run and fix the errors.

- @Anishviswa, It is not possible for a bot to fix these errors. They require understanding of the reference that an automated bot lacks. Qwerfjkltalk 14:38, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

MassRM
[edit]Is there a MassRM tool? Web-julio (talk) 00:57, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Why do you need a mass removal tool? SMasonGarrison 02:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am guessing Web-julio is talking about WP:RM (aka requested moves). @Web-julio: Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting multiple page moves has the instructions: The RM template is a MassRM tool; RMCD bot does the heavy lifting. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:43, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Thankfully we don't need to tag pages on mainspace by ourselves here for RMs.
- While for mass removals, I think that would require AWB permission, but I never wanted mass removing anything.
- I wanted it to solve the inconsistency between this and this. As Mason is already aware about this issue I brought to a CfD/S. But I just noticed Twinkle already offers multiple RM. Web-julio (talk) 23:39, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Anyways, there's already a RM about this going on Talk:European Union–United States relations#Requested move 23 November 2024 Web-julio (talk) 23:47, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm aware and frankly pretty concerned that you're not slowing down or taking the time to listen to the feedback you've been receiving. SMasonGarrison 00:29, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- If I didn't start the CfD/S, this RM wouldn't be happening, so in the end, I'm glad I'm contributing positively and bringing up the issues to people who volunteer themselves in such areas. If you want me to stop using talk pages or Wikipedia namespace and interacting with people, then you can stay concerned. Web-julio (talk) 07:07, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- All I'm asking is that you listen to the feedback you've been receiving. SMasonGarrison 13:09, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Set of Linter patterns for 23 Nov 2024
[edit]I have set up a new list of Linter patterns in my sandbox. The usual caveats apply. I'll be happy to check and fix anything that is necessary. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:24, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, thanks. I'm quite busy right now, so I don't think I'll be able to do much work on this for about a month. I'm planning on writing a website to make submitting & checking the linter batches easier. Qwerfjkltalk 21:45, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. Whenever you can get to it is fine. I don't think anyone else is fixing these batches, so they should be waiting for you when you have time. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:14, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Brennan Hill (06:19, 24 November 2024)
[edit]I have recently created a Wikipedia article about SQM Research, an Australian real estate data and research firm, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a look at it when you have the time. I'm new to the commnity, so your insights and feedback would be invaluable in ensuring that the article meets Wikipedia’s standards. Thank you
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Brennan_Hill/sandbox --Brennan Hill (talk) 06:19, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Brennan Hill, the main issue is that the page has a promotional tone. It's also a bit lacking it sources - it needs to meet the notability guideline for companies. You also use
... often referenced in the media[2]
- this is not how to use references. The reference itself is a good source, but you can't point to it is an example of the subject being referenced in media, you need a reference that actually says it is often referenced in media - that would fall under WP:Original research. Tech News: 2024-48
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- A new version of the standard wikitext editor-mode syntax highlighter will be available as a beta feature later this week. This brings many new features and bug fixes, including right-to-left support, template folding, autocompletion, and an improved search panel. You can learn more on the help page.
- The 2010 wikitext editor now supports common keyboard shortcuts such
Ctrl
+B
for bold andCtrl
+I
for italics. A full list of all six shortcuts is available. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. [10] - Starting November 28, Flow/Structured Discussions pages will be automatically archived and set to read-only at the following wikis: bswiki, elwiki, euwiki, fawiki, fiwiki, frwikiquote, frwikisource, frwikiversity, frwikivoyage, idwiki, lvwiki, plwiki, ptwiki, urwiki, viwikisource, zhwikisource. This is done as part of StructuredDiscussions deprecation work. If you need any assistance to archive your page in advance, please contact Trizek (WMF).
- View all 25 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a user creating a new AbuseFilter can now only set the filter to "protected" if it includes a protected variable.
Updates for technical contributors
- The CodeEditor, which can be used in JavaScript, CSS, JSON, and Lua pages, now offers live autocompletion. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. The feature can be temporarily disabled on a page by pressing
Ctrl
+,
and un-selecting "Live Autocompletion". - Tool-maintainers who use the Graphite system for tracking metrics, need to migrate to the newer Prometheus system. They can check this dashboard and the list in the Description of the task T350592 to see if their tools are listed, and they should claim metrics and dashboards connected to their tools. They can then disable or migrate all existing metrics by following the instructions in the task. The Graphite service will become read-only in April. [11]
- The New PreProcessor parser performance report has been fixed to give an accurate count for the number of Wikibase entities accessed. It had previously been resetting after 400 entities. [12]
Meetings and events
- A Language community meeting will take place November 29 at 16:00 UTC. There will be presentations on topics like developing language keyboards, the creation of the Mooré Wikipedia, the language support track at Wiki Indaba, and a report from the Wayuunaiki community on their experiences with the Incubator and as a new community over the last 3 years. This meeting will be in English and will also have Spanish interpretation.

Question from Francocriscola (15:14, 26 November 2024)
[edit]Hello, I am currently trying to translate a wikipedia page. I used the auto-translate feature and fixed whatever needed to be fixed, but it was surprisingly very accurate. However, the page won't let me upload given that it is 98% similar to the auto-translation. Is there a way to get around this issue? --Francocriscola (talk) 15:14, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Francocriscola, I'm not aware of any translation tool that allows automatic translation on the English Wikipedia. Were you trying to translate to English, or a different language? And what tool did you use - what did it look like etc.? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 26 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello!I've just created a new article draft: Will there be an article on "Adam Islands"? Thanks. Happy editing! Abduvaitov Sherzod V Wiki (talk) 17:19, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]I created a new article "Ballens Island (Alaska)". Check out the article and give me feedback! Thanks. Happy editing! Abduvaitov Sherzod V Wiki (talk) 11:42, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- Abduvaitov Sherzod V Wiki, it looks good, passing WP:GEONATURAL. You should fix the error in the infobox and add a few mroe sources - the first source is just a link to a non-existant article. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:28, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Page: Ableism
Diff: Special:Diff/1258152488
Comment/question: The item linked to doesn't have a title and Wikipedia seemingly allows zero exceptions to the requirement for a title when this is the case.
80.193.98.150 (talk) 14:24, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- I believe all references are supposed to have titles - you could title this one something like "Internal NHS letter" or something of the sort. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:21, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
