eruption dates

edit

Currently there are 2 different last eruption dates listed. Is it possible to confirm either one? Lotsofmagnets (talk) 15:55, 4 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes we have a date issue here and perhaps the unreferenced one relates to another eruption, I have commented it out and may find where it belongs. The info is also unreferenced in List of volcanic eruptions in Iceland which is a work in progress at this time 13:17, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
There is information in other articles on en:wikipedia that are inconsistent with the commented out claim. See Magnús Einarsson and Hítardalur. Other low quality sources also suggest inconsistencies such as that a fire event happened (not eruption) and the geographical location is in a valley a mountain range away from the Ljósufjöll volcanic system. Interesting that the local records that might be relevant to the earlier eruption were likely destroyed in the event that killed Magnús Einarsson and about 70 others. Possible original sources would be in Latin or from the Sturlunga saga ChaseKiwi (talk) 14:41, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Apparently no need for name disambiguation

edit

There is a small subglacial volcanic ridge called Ljósufjöll, located within the Veiðivötn fissure system of Bárðarbunga far to the east.National Land Survey of Iceland (kortasja) This is currently not notable and no other common use of the name appears to occur in Iceland. There is Ljósufjöll mountain and then the volcanic system that direves it's name from the mountain, often just called Ljósufjöll. I think these two things should have seperate articles. Just like there is an article on Hawaii the island and then another article on Hawaii the state that derives it's name from the island. Steinninn 09:26, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Common issue and should be tested against the Wikipeda criteria that each individual article should be notable in its own right, and have content and sources to make this so. Not yet case here. Perhaps in the future. A current example of such a split in the Icelandic context is the article on Katla's fissure swarm which has a GA rating while the article Katla (volcano) is not yet nearly as strong but far better than any one could write from original sources on the Ljósufjöll mountain. As to the Katla Geopark article... ChaseKiwi (talk) 22:40, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
