editYou have tagged Draft:Fang Banged and others for speedy deletion as copy vios. I have great sympathy for your view, but the original content, which has been copied wholesale, does not seem to be copyright. - After Wikipedia was flooded with tens of thousands of very short sportsperson articles, all articles must now contain and point to "significant coverage" (see links below). If they are new, they can be moved to "draft" and worked on there.
- This sports biography does not cite any sources containing significant coverage. Please help improve this article by adding citations to sources containing significant coverage. Sports biographies without significant coverage violate the requirement for such articles and may be deleted. Geschichte (talk) 20:09, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Kristen Onsgard
editYou moved this to a Draft. I've created Wikipedia pages for hundreds of Bridge players. Kristen has won a North American Bridge Championship (these are open events, includes players from all over the world). Winning one event is considered wiki-notable. The article was sourced.
Her page was created in the same style and format and layout that is typically used for Bridge players. I've hardly ever had problems with any of the 100s of Wikipedia pages I've created so curious why this one was moved to Draft.
I have updated, and added even more references.
Please review. Tx. Nicolas.hammond (talk) 19:33, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying! I'm inclined to view bridge as a sport in this context, and the criteria for sports biographies were sharply tightened in 2022. That may be the reason why the perception of these bridge bios may have changed.
- Before, several (i.e. tens of thousands) biographies pointed to databases only. I created quite many of them myself. This is not allowed anymore, and sports biographies most reference at least one, preferably two to three sources that constitute significant and independent coverage of the person.
- Unfortunately, I don't think any of the current sources would pass the aforementioned criteria. I believe that the broad consensus would be that the current sources are not independent, meaning that they have all been produced by someone affiliated with the person. "Someone affiliated" would entail family members, employers, or the sports teams and leagues the person competes for/in.
- If we were to seek broader input about these sources, the venue would typically be a deletion discussion of the article. Draftification is a way to avoid deletion for the time being, so are you perhaps able to find independent coverage of this (and other) person(s)? Geschichte (talk) 08:26, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Someone who has won a North American Bridge Championship, which allows competitors from all over the world, is Wiki-notable. The same person also made the finals of a World Championship.
- The sources listed are independent from the subject. They are, as would be typical, related to the sport in question.
- You will see a comment from someone on the next article about you Drafting the articles of another long time contributor.
- In this case, I believe I have a better knowledge of who is wiki-notable, and who is not, in the Bridge world. I have created 100s of pages on Bridge players.
- As we appear to disagree, can you escalate this to a higher authority who can make a decision.Nicolas.hammond (talk) 17:26, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Following up on the request to escalate this to a higher authority who can make a final decision.
- I should point out that my account was marked as autopatrolled some time ago to make the process smoother.
- I've now spent more time and energy on attempting to get this page 'approved' than it took to write the article.
- Please escalate.Nicolas.hammond (talk) 06:18, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
- We'll let it stay for a while and see if it picks up other interested contributors. I do however note that you don't seem to understand what I mean about "at least one sources that constitute significant and independent coverage of the person". Please let me know if you want further explanation of that. A player's league is not considered an independent source in any sport or activity across the world. Query
editHello, Geschichte,
I just noticed that you draftified several articles created by User:BabbaQ, one right after another, and you didn't inform the article creator of this draftification even though this is a step you should be taking when you move an article from main space to Draft space (please review WP:DRAFTIFY for guidance, especially WP:DRAFTNOTIFY). This editor has been active for over a decade and has made over 100,000 edits. I think the artices include information on why these athletes are notable, because they won championships. Was there any other reason why you chose to draftify articles made by this longtime contributor? It seems rather inexplicable and targeted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:44, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- I see that this same question was brought up the other day by another editor who is a longtime content creator. I think you need to adjust your judgment on when an article should be draftified because you are making some inappropriate decisions. Editors who have made dozens or hundreds of articles should not have their efforts draftified. And, as you will see in WP:DRAFTOBJECT, if an editor objects to draftification, the articles should be moved back to main space. You should have offered that option to Nicolas.hammond in the discussion above this one. Liz Read! Talk! 04:50, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- I acknowledge that I forgot/neglected to note at the talk page. I respectfully disagree on several other points. - No targeting took place, inasmuch as a large swathe of pages showed up in Newpages at the same time, of which I draftified some that I deemed unsatisfactory and left the ones (by the same user) that were ok. - I haven't looked it up, but my recollection is that these pages were created within a short timespan, and certainly without a diligent effort. They resembled drafts in every way. - The reason they did not belong in mainspace, was mostly due to being incomplete both in terms of content and sourcing. Furthermore, the English language was not up to par. Draftifying with a polite message seemed like a viable option. - While some may disagree, some may also agree that more should be expected from experienced users. Just the other day, a user with 78,716 edits who normally creates decent pages had two new pages draftified by someone else. This is completely normal practice. - Discussing what sources an article would benefit from, is the best way forward. Many users, myself included, need to update themselves on the outlook on sports biographies, which has changed drastically since 2022. Are you forgetting this huge shift in editorial practice when it comes to sports biographies in particular? - To sum up, it's true that draftification can be debatable, and the above points are duly noted! Still, I think you are too one-sided here, Liz. - WP:BOLD applies to anyone who wants to take action on drafts and I don't WP:OWN the pages. Geschichte (talk) 08:46, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

editHello Geschichte, how are you. I recently created a New York/New Jersey Metrostars and Kansas City Wizards page for each club. However, after publishing the page, it was taken down by you or another admin. Please explain why and if possible, please undo your removal of these pages.
Thank you,

- I didn't touch the page, but I did message you that it doesn't bear fruit to redo the same action again and again.
- The reason why a page for the New York/New Jersey Metrostars wasn't seen as warranted - note that it hasn't had a page since 2007, then at MetroStars - is that the current club is seen as a direct continuation of the former, and its entire history is covered there.
- There are many older sports teams in the US that have changed city and nickname several times. Not every iteration of the club name gets its own article. It's a bit hard to see the point of a separate New York/New Jersey Metrostars article, especially since some of the contents are subjective (the legacy section is not written in an encyclopedic manner). Geschichte (talk) 19:13, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Hello Geschichte,
Thank you for your response. However, I and many others feel that having a separate article for the New York/New Jersey Metrostars is necessary. The article of course must be objective and some aspects such as the legacy section can be changed as to be written in an encyclopedic manner.
Please Reconsider,

AlexandraAVX (talk) 17:56, 22 May 2024 (UTC)Dear Geschichte, I wanted to address your nomination for deletion for the page Tobias Hestad. I understood that the page was a borderline case when creating the article and wanted to address some of the nuances so I can seek back and reach a verdict. There are a small number of sources available on the internet, however many of these are paywalled Norwegian media. The sources I have been able to access likely do not reach the criteria of "significant", but this additional media I cannot access may cross the threshold. No notability from either his father nor his grandfather should affect the existence of the page and I agree with Wikipedia's guidelines on this, including it in the original article for the purpose of personal matters. I wanted to speak directly to you and make something of an argument for the page's existence but also to hopefully receive a response from you and have a more experience editor give their opinion.
As I see it, Hestad has played only one game of professional-level football (not listed on the page as it was a cup match) and since then has played as you said in lower tiers, but still at a professional level whilst at Stjordals-Blink and Raufoss in the former 1. divisjon. His career trajectory is reasonably similar to that of Connor Johnson or Keaton Ward, both of whom have pages. The only real difference is achievement is level of referencing. I disagree with your contention that Hestad having compiled the majority of goals against amateur Kirkenes denies any notability to the feat. Consider a ninth-tier English football club winning continuously in the F.A. Cup qualification until they face, say, Manchester City, where Erling Haaland scores seven goals, which allows him to be the top scorer in the F.A. Cup. That achievement would be listed on his page despite the majority of goals coming against a weak, amateur opposition. I understand that the notability of the feat for the existence of the page is a different matter but I find it deserved consideration.
I hope this finds you well and I look forward to reading your reply.

Hello, Geschichte,
You closed this AFD discussion two days early. Why? There wasn't enough participation to indicate that this could be a SNOW CLOSE. I've seen you closing other AFDs too early, too. Please let AFD discussions run at least 7 days before considering closing them as NACs. - I'm surprised to see such a reaction. In my eyes, this was very much a WP:SNOW situation. I can't possibly imagine what would have swayed the discussion. The nomination was wholly refuted, with sources being added and a broad agreement arising that WP:The Heymann Standard was met. Opinions were founded in policy and not WP:PERX. So this was a solid case. Also note that recently, I pre-empted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anthony Hammer from being closed to early (the outcome was the same, but still...). editJust to follow up on my previous message, when proposing articles for deletion you should leave a template:Old PROD on the article's talk page and a message on the article creator's talk page as outlined in wp:Proposed deletion#Nominating. - The bot does the talk page notices, and it seems to do it very satisfactory at that. Geschichte (talk) 06:06, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
The article Walter Fernandez has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Article fails WP:GNG without significant coverage
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ⋆。˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Djalim ໒꒱˚。⋆ 12:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
Footballers' ledes
editI sincerely appreciate all the work you do, but I ask that you please pay a little bit more attention to the phrasing in footballers' ledes. The lede of Ayoub Aleesami, an article you recently created, was a mess, repeating words and using awkward phrasing. Indeed, standard practice is to use the following format in ledes: "[Name] is a [Nationality] professional footballer who plays as a [position] for [team]." You have a habit of occasionally using the much more awkward phrasing of "[Name] is a [Nationality] football [position] who plays for [team]." That is both awkward and borderline incorrect—indeed, in the case of Aleesami, for example, there is no such thing as "Norwegian football," so it only makes sense, for clarity, to use "Norwegian professional footballer." I ask for you help in using proper phrasing in the future when you create an article for a footballer. On most occasions you do so, and I appreciate that. Thanks for you help. Anwegmann (talk) 04:49, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- Duly noted. I'm reluctant to use the word professional since that status might change, especially late in a footballer's career. Omitting it eliminates a need for updating. Moreover, notability is no longer dependent on being professional or playing in a "fully professional" league. At the same time, it's implied that players are (or have been) professional just by their inclusion in an encyclopedia. It therefore seems a bit extraneous. Geschichte (talk) 10:57, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- The issue isn't really with the word "professional." Leave it out if you want. The issue is with the wording of "[nationality] football [position]." Using "footballer" instead of "football [position]" entirely avoids the possibility of sports confusion. Anwegmann (talk) 00:19, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
Please read this article and its talk page. I think a speedy deletion isn’t possible, but he’s not notable. If you take it to WP:AfD, please notify me. Bearian (talk) 03:30, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think India, Pakistan and Nigeria are difficult countries for me to judge/gauge notability. It's sometimes blatant when an article is promotional (such as here), but I usually defer to people with better knowledge of these societies. Geschichte (talk) 15:16, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
What do you think about this as a source? Bearian (talk) 05:12, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's a book, which is good, but only 3-4 sentences are about him. Not enough to sustain a biography in my opinion, but a merger would not be out of the question. Since the single has no page, A Girl Like Me (Rihanna album)#Songs is a possibility. Geschichte (talk) 15:16, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
