I was impressed by this piece, written as it was in another language. I replaced your fire tax with ransom because the phrase is sometimes used to mean hearth tax, which would be misleading. However, ransom isn't so good either, as it mainly applies to individuals, not communities. Any thoughts?--AntientNestor (talk) 14:43, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I can't say I have any suggestions, I just put fire tax since it's the direct translation from the Swedish sources, I think it should be ransom since I think it fits the most but there might be other terms I don't know about. Gvssy (talk) 14:50, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Historically this would be tribute, but the modern usage, by which this now means acclaim, has obliterated this older sense. I can't think of anything else either.--AntientNestor (talk) 15:24, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, if neither of us can think of a different term we could also leave it up to other editors but i'll let you decide. Gvssy (talk) 15:33, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template:Swedish colonial conflict

edit

Gvssy (talk) 10:03, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Help request

edit

Hi Gvssy, I was wondering if you might be able to assist me. In the article Magnus IV of Sweden, there is a reference to Ulf Sundberg, Medeltidens svenska krig (Stockholm, 1999), p. 135ff. Apparently Sundberg assigns a regnal number III for Magnus Eriksson. Would you be able to check what Sundberg writes about the numeral (if you happen to have access to the book)? It may well be that there is no discussion, but that he just gives the numeral without explanation. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jähmefyysikko (talk) 09:17, 15 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to War in Gotland (1524). Battle of Latarnia

edit

Good morning, I actually made a mistake (I did not write a message or a proposal to move the article) , I am already saying :>. For the sake of uniformity, I have moved it to a Polish name, because the other articles have a Polish name and this one has a Swedish one, and I would like to do what you suggested, i.e. do the Battle of the Latarnia/Weichselmünde. Czekan pl (talk) 17:15, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

I would assume that "Battle of the Latarnia/Weichselmünde" goes against guidelines / would break all norms, I am fine with keeping Battle of Latarnia as the title, I was just displeased with the move. Perhaps other editors should give their own opinions. Gvssy (talk) 17:44, 23 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Swedish colonial conflicts

edit

Gvssy (talk) 08:33, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
A, ok.
Gvssy (talk) 10:47, 18 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Flags

edit

Regarding this edit, this flag (the tricolor) only came into use in the late 17th-century. I think it would be best here to use the banner of Ivan the Terrible (Banner of the All-Merciful Savior). Mellk (talk) 19:50, 23 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough, my thought process was that it would be best to use the tri-color as it's also used for the main Ingrian War article. Gvssy (talk) 08:34, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, by default the template uses the later flag so this needs to be corrected in a lot of other articles. I think for certain years it may be better to use the coat of arms instead rather than the banner, but I do not think we can include this in the infobox due to MOS:COA. Mellk (talk) 08:44, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Gvssy: Seeing as you are working on military conflicts in this period, can you correct the flags for pre-Petrine Russia when you come across them? You can just set the value to 1552 in the template. Thanks. Mellk (talk) 19:42, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely, I'll try to remember. Gvssy (talk) 19:50, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I think there is also an option for 1668 (ensign of Russian frigate Oryol (1668)) before the default flag is used from c. 1693. I am also interested in military conflicts during this period so you can ask me to take a look at such articles. Mellk (talk) 19:57, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Articles about the Russian-Swedish War of 1656

edit

Hi! I see that you are working a lot on the above-mentioned war, I would like to make a couple of comments and suggestions:

1: In your new draft about the battle of the lava redoubt, in the location window, you should also specify a more well-known geographical object (for example, the city next to which the redoubt is located), as well as in which country it is currently located. Because I can't find any information about this place. (See Template:Infobox military conflict)

2: You may have made a mistake in spelling the name of the Russian general, it is better to double-check the source (Sila in Russian, it literally translates like power)

3: How do you like the idea of writing an article together about the siege of Dorpat in 1657, I can help with some sources, but in this topic you can obviously do more than me. Dushnilkin (talk) 20:49, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

1. Yes, I had the same trouble with finding the location. It's very hard to do so when all the results on google are literal lava and volcanic eruptions, even the maps in the books I used don't seem to show the location, hopefully I find some source that could give a clue as to where it is.
2. Probably, I should read some of the pages before, they probably mention his name in full. I took Sila Potyomkin from the Battle of Rautus kyrka article, the names felt similar, seeing as both have Potyomkin as their last name.
3. That would be great, I have some time off so I'd be happy to do so. I'd have to see if my own sources mention it, but I think I've seen a mention of it. Gvssy (talk) 20:56, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Then, when it is convenient for you, create a draft and write about it to me Dushnilkin (talk) 22:25, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I must unfortunately report that none of the sources I have available to me in bookform mention a siege of Dorpat in 1657. Perhaps the authors just viewed it as insignificant or something. I'll look into other sources tommorow, but I felt it was necessary to tell you before we proceed with the collaboration. Gvssy (talk) 01:43, 30 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello again, to look for some information, first of all, this is not a redoubt, but a ostrog, it is located on the roads between Noteburg and Ladoga. I also found a source about the general, most likely meaning Alexey Potyomkin. In general, I will make a couple of changes about this. Dushnilkin (talk) 22:53, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I appreciate the help! Gvssy (talk) 01:40, 30 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Siege capitalization

edit

I see you're responsible for a bunch of the over-capitalized "Siege of X" in article leads that I've been fixing. See WT:MOSCAPS#Besieged. Please fix those when you get a chance. Dicklyon (talk) 15:34, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I apologize, I wasn't aware. I'll try fixing it soon. Gvssy (talk) 15:36, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
There are presently only a few. See search. Dicklyon (talk) 15:38, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
