Seeing With the Shepherds - Blessed Is She
I pray that the Lord will dispose our hearts this Christmas to approach Him like the shepherds did that first Christmas morning. Sister, pause with me before the Christ Child; look at Him in your prayerful imagination. And then let us return home glorifying and praising God for the miracle He has done again in our hearts this Christmas. This holy season we are asked to see with the eyes and hearts of those dear shepherds. We are here with them, in this sacred scene of Bethlehem.
Purify My Heart - Blessed Is She
Sister, if we feel unprepared for Christmas, we can take heart. The liturgical season of Advent serves, like Saint John the Baptist, to prepare our hearts to receive God Incarnate! Let’s trust the Church’s preparation at work in us. Trust resolutely that whatever purifying grace is available in the Sacraments and through our private prayer during these final hours of Advent enables us to welcome Christ more fully into our hearts and to shine brightly in the unique mission He has given us.
Mary didn’t understand, yet she trusted that God would open her mind and heart to the whole story. To reveal it to her according to His plan for her good. To each one of us who doesn’t understand, here is the formula: We must leave it to God to open our minds and hearts. We must trust. Even when. Even if. Even there. Even in that place. Even in that situation. Even in that problem. Even everything.
Who Told You That? - Blessed Is She
Then [God] asked, “Who told you that you were naked? // Genesis 3:11 My family still talks about my standing ovation in Rodgers’ and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. I was in ninth grade, but the costumes and the choreography made it feel like Broadway. I’ve always been a character actress, so the Wicked Stepmother was delic
Mary, a model for all of us, is “blessed” because she believes in the promises that were spoken to her by the angel. She responded by accepting the Lord’s will for her. And through her yes, the prophecy of Micah from the First Reading was fulfilled with Christ’s birth in Bethlehem. The author of Hebrews tells us how Christ had the same response to the Father, saying, “Behold, I come to do your will” (Hebrew 10:9).
Soften My Heart To Your Words - Blessed Is She
“Simon, I have something to say to you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. // Luke 7:40 “Gina! Wait. I forgot to give you the homework . . .” The final school bell had rung and I was already down the steps nearing the sidewalk, arm in arm with one of my best friends. Dread and aggravation rose inside. I wanted to ignore tha
Fruit of Our Fiats - Blessed Is She
At some point in life, each of us will face moments where we feel like the Lord is asking something extraordinary of us. We may be afraid, confused, or hardhearted towards an invitation from Jesus and His Church. As we approach the Nativity in a few days, sister, let us be reminded of the precious fruit of Mary’s yes. Our dear Blessed Mother walks with us on our journey of faith, her courage and obedience the most beautiful encouragement.
Trust in The Rock - Blessed Is She
When we make the space in our hearts and take the time to listen to Him, the Lord speaks to us in His Word. We will hear His gentle “Do not be afraid” (Luke 1:13), reassuring us in our supplications and dependence on Him: “your prayer has been heard” (Luke 1:13). These reassurances invite a response. That response ought to be a mouth filled with praise, singing his glory. A song of entrustment to the One Who is my strength from my mother’s womb.
Is Your Room Ready? - Blessed Is She
“Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.”” // Mark 14:14-15 I patted my brother-in-law’s shoulder gently as he strugg
Hope for Today - Blessed Is She
Down through the generations, God patiently instructs His people to remember. Later Jeremiah takes up the refrain: Remember when the Lord led us out of Egypt? “Behold the days are coming” when, once again, He will deliver us from captivity (see Jeremiah 23:5,7). The prophet promises that just as God came to the rescue then, He will come again to save His people. So, too, for us. God’s faithfulness in our past is a downpayment on His future faithfulness.
Ridiculous Greatness of Heart - Blessed Is She
The following prayer, it is said, was found near the body of a dead child in the Ravensbrück concentration camp during World War II: O Lord, remember not only men and women of good will, but also those of ill will. But do not remember all the suffering they inflicted on us. Remember the fruits we have born thanks to t
All in the Family - Blessed Is She
The physical suffering during my pregnancy ended with the sweetest little baby boy, our son, and an overwhelming conviction of how many generations have led to our family. Through chance meetings, immigration, fostering, birth, marriage, poverty, and abundance in generation to generation, His will was working through time to come to this moment.

Are You Ready to Learn? - Blessed Is She
“Teach me your ways, O Lord.” If we want to know the ways of the Lord, we need to focus our hearts and minds on the object of our instruction. We need to sit down and practice a way of life in unity with Him, even if it means doing the same thing repeatedly until we can come together with Him flawlessly.
