OUR MANTLE IS UP!!!! We finally have a fireplace mantle!! It took us half a day to install and we’ve waited nearly 4 months to get this but it is finally here and finally up and we LOVE it!!! This is a real old weathered hand-hewn barn beam (it actually has huge notches out of the back and underside that I actually love (I debated even having those face the front but ultimately decided on this cleaner look). It’s anchored to 5 studs by chunky steel brackets and bolts on the top and bottom ... It’s custom built by professional finish carpenters, but I’m going to give you all the info to DIY. We had the BEST finish carpenters in all the land @awesometrimwork working on our home, and they custom built our mantle for a look we loved and so that we could match it to the wood beam and kitchenette wood stain we put in down there. So… I reached out to thfor the details, and here’s what they said: “We built the mantle using Clear Alder. It’s a pretty simple but sleek design. We ordered a 6” cove crown moulding from a local mill and ran that on the inside of our outer box.
