First grade art lessons

The August art session with my little "firsties" was a HUGE success. We created "Wild About 1st Grade" self-portraits. They turned out so dang cute! I just had to share this tonight. It couldn't wait. First grade has been learning about still lifes as part of our curriculum this year, and today I completed my first round of Cezanne apple still lifes. I was SO pleased with how these turned out! It only took one class period, which is always nice, and the kids really enjoyed making them. First grade artists are thinking about the art elements. We talked about what things artists use to make their artwork fantastic. We checked out the lists (and posters) of: Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Pattern, Space and Form. Next, we read a book called, "Lines that Wiggle" that had all sorts of lines in it.
