Greek Revival English 4-Poster Bed, C 1820.

Perhaps the nicest and grandest of 18-19c English beds, a stunner of a 4 poster canopy bed in just-about a queen size (queen fitted sheet fit), most unusual for the time. This was made for someone important and affluent 200 years ago. All solid mahogany with bookmatched burled faces on the drawers, hand tooled-bronze dore' hardware and 'Bennett's Patent' iron assembly cleats. Barley-twist posts end in detailed carved claw-feet. We've never seen one with the integrated 4 drawer storage under the frame. Modern platform fitted around the original rope pegs to hold the mattress. Not pictured is the included original canopy frame that meets in the bed's center-the corona for the canopy is missing but can be made-raises overall height to 12.5'. A rare investment piece for the portfolio that you can sleep on. We sold this in 1981 from our NY shop to a long-time physician client and downsizing makes it available once again.
