Folks often comment that they are intimidated by gumbo, but I think it is one of those dishes everyone should try! There are so many gumbo recipes out there, with lots of variations. But, I think this recipe holds its own. I used both sausage and shrimp, but you could definitely add your favorite proteins!

Ingredients

Seafood

• 3 lbs Shrimp, medium

Produce

• 4 Bay leaves

• 2 Celery, (roughly chopped (about 1 cup)), ribs

• 2 tsp Garlic

• 1 Green bell pepper, large

• 1/2 tsp Thyme, dried leaves

• 1 can Tomatoes, stewed

• 1 Yellow onion, (roughly chopped (about 1 cup)), large

Canned Goods

• 10 cups Beef broth

• 4 tsp Gumbo file, powder

Condiments

• 2 tbsp Hot sauce

• 1 can Tomato sauce

• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Pasta & Grains

• 1 White rice, cooked

Baking & Spices

• 1 cup All-purpose flour

• 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning

• 1 tbsp White sugar

Dairy

• 3/4 cup Butter, unsalted

Other

• 1 Ring (14 ounces) andouille sausage, (or kielbasa, sliced into rounds)
