HISTORICAL TIDBIT:
The Queen Mother was bequeathed the jewelry collection of the Honorable Mrs. Greville, a friend of the royal family, in 1942—and the Boucheron Tiara came with it. The tiara became a favorite of the Queen Mother’s, who would go on to wear it at her 100th birthday celebration. Queen Elizabeth II has since inherited the piece, and lent it to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
The openwork diamond piece (shown in the last listing photo) was ordered from Boucheron in 1921. According to Geoffrey C. Munn’s Tiaras: A History of Splendor, an older tiara’s stones were recycled into the new headpiece. In 1953, the Queen Mother had its height increased with additional brilliant-cut diamonds and one marquise-cut diamond—jewels which were given to Edward VII by de Beers.
