March

March was a calm month. I watched a lot of movies with my wife, and classic movies that I’ve never seen. Back to the Future, 3 Jurassic Parks, Akira, Spy X Family, Pirates of the Caribbean, Anastasia, Project Hail Mary, Super Mario Galaxy, etc. It was also our wedding anniversary, but celebrated small with a nice dinner out at our favorite restaurant. The real celebration is in May when we go to Japan for 2 weeks.

February

Feb was a fun month. This month I had my first official IDPA match where I ran the classifier at Sharpshooter ranking. We had our first bit of snow on the 18th with a day long blizzard.

Notebooks

First, I’m going through revision 7 of my notebook. After many samples and prototypes made by SendCutSend and assembled in my garage, I’m finally satisfied with the quality and features of the notebook that I’ve designed. It lays flat open like a book and folded back on itself, has an internally protected spine, made of high quality materials, and built in the USA. I’m gathering the final pieces of machinery to assemble them rapidly and finish the metals to a high quality. Then comes the marketing and building of the brand.

After reading the book, Chill: The Cold Water Swim Cure I was pretty convinced of the efficacy of cold water therapy. To be frank, I don’t actually recommend buying the book or even reading it if you read this blog post. The author of the book is MD. PhD. Mark Harper who is an anesthesiologist. Dr. Harper presents his research findings surrounding cold water therapy and surgery recovery alongside different less relevant (and less interesting) anecdotal stories promoting cold water therapy.

Religion Is Weird…

Broadly speaking, religions/religious beliefs have some interesting emergent qualities. One of the common ones I’ve identified is theophanies, or visions of heavenly beings. This most commonly happens with Christian flavors of belief. Some exemplary examples are the LDS church, Seventh Day Adventist, and other churches formed during the “Great Awakening”. Given how prevalent visions are in Christian religion, I wanted to see how similar these different theophanies are to each other using sentence embeddings.

i’ve always been scared of the dark

No matter who you are, you were probably scared of the dark at some point in your life. Even now, I feel scared out in the wilderness looking out into a dark forest. On camping trips, I always make sure to have a flashlight or two in case one dies. You can never be too sure what’s lurking out there.

It’s been a year now since my wife and I moved into our current neighborhood. Our initial impressions of the neighborhood was that it was a bit messy with trash and lacking greenery, but we thought it would be an adequate first place. Sadly our landlord doesn’t allow pets in our 4-plex, but we like to think that we’ve had a number of pets while living here. We’ve had wild nesting birds, bats, cats, slugs, and our personal favorite, bunnies.

my introduction to the thumby

A few weeks ago, my friends and I were at a concert waiting for the main act to go on when a buddy whipped out a Thumby on his keychain. I’ve never seen anything like it before and honestly thought it was just a cute little keychain accessory. I was absolutely floored when it actually turned on and started playing pong.

After the concert I immediately bought a Thumby for everyone in my family with decent eyesight.
