Features

Small app. Real habit.

Everything EyesOff does is in service of one thing: getting your eyes off the screen on a schedule you'll actually keep.

The 20-20-20 rhythm, automated

Every 20 minutes, a gentle nudge to look 20 feet away for 20 seconds — the interval eye care professionals actually recommend.

Weighs nothing

Lives in the menu bar. Idles near zero CPU and barely touches your battery.

Alerts on your terms

Pick the system sound, or go silent. Snooze when you are mid-thought.

Speaks your language

Switch languages straight from the menu bar — no restart, no settings dive.

Never in the way

A soft banner, not a full-screen takeover. You decide when to step away.

Set it once, forget it

Launch at login and EyesOff is already watching the clock before you open your first tab.

Yours alone

No account, no subscription, no cloud sync. Your schedule and settings stay on your Mac.

How it works

Four steps, then never again

There is no onboarding flow, no workspace to configure. You set it up once and it stays out of your way.

  1. 01

    Install & launch

Drag it to Applications and open it. An eye appears in your menu bar — that is the whole setup.

  2. 02

    Work as usual

EyesOff counts quietly in the background. Nothing pops up, nothing steals focus.

  3. 03

    Look away

At the 20-minute mark, a soft banner asks you to focus on something 20 feet away.

  4. 04

    Back to it

Twenty seconds later you get the all-clear, and the timer starts over.

Privacy

We respect your privacy

EyesOff is a timer. It has no reason to know what you are working on, so it never looks. The one exception is a single ping when you install it, telling us which macOS version to keep supporting — and the privacy policy spells out exactly what that ping contains.

Read the privacy policy
  • Runs on your Mac

The timer, your interval, your preferences — all local. Nothing is synced to a server.

  • Nothing to sign into

No account, no email, no profile. There is no record of you to leak, because none is created.

  • Never watches you work

It cannot see your screen, your keystrokes, your files, or which apps you have open.

  • Open to inspection

Every line is public. You can check that all of the above is true instead of trusting it.

Pricing

It costs nothing. That is the whole page.

No trial, no upgrade prompt, no email gate. Download it and it works forever.

Contact & support

Questions, bugs, or just want to say thanks?

Email is the fastest way to reach a human — support requests, feature ideas and bug reports all land in the same inbox, and every message gets read. EyesOff stays free either way; coffee just keeps the releases coming.

Updates

Hear about new releases

EyesOff has no auto-updater yet, so the only way to know a new version exists is if we tell you. Leave your email and we will — briefly, and only when there is something to install.

  • Only when a new version ships — a few times a year at most.

  • Release notes and nothing else. No drip campaign, no marketing.

  • Your address is used for this and nothing else. Unsubscribe any time.

Download

Give your eyes the next 20 seconds

One drag into Applications and you are done. No installer wizard, no account, no restart.

macOS says it can't open the app?

That is Gatekeeper, not a problem with the download. Because EyesOff is a small independent app, it is not notarised by Apple — so macOS asks you to approve it once, by hand.

  1. 1Open System Settings, then go to Privacy & Security.
  2. 2Scroll to the Security section — you will see a line saying EyesOff was blocked.
  3. 3Click Open Anyway next to it, then confirm with Open.
Approving it is safe to do knowingly: EyesOff is fully open source, so you can read every line before you run it.Inspect the source
