about
With his second single, « L’attente », Ezéchiel Pailhès is launching his fourth solo album, due out on October 7th. The French composer, pianist and vocalist follows his ongoing exploration of the crossroads between poetry and songs, piano and synth, old-time verses and contemporary sounds.
Since 2013, Ezéchiel Pailhès has been crafting a unique French synth-pop. On his first three albums, he switched between songs inspired by poetry, instrumental ballads and electronica with hummed choruses.
"L'attente" is the second single from his forthcoming album Mélopée. Its lyrics come from the book of poems Les Pleurs (1833) by Marceline Desbordes-Valmore. As Ezéchiel Pailhès explains, however, the starting point for this song was the melody, very simply written on the piano. "I like this kind of bursting melody that can arise naturally and intuitively during a work session. This track has a cinematic feel to it, with quite a few collage and sound transformation techniques I developed on my previous albums, particularly on Divine, my first fully instrumental record.”
This new track marks the release, in the autumn of 2022, of a fourth album. As for its first two singles, it combines the adaptation of poems written in the 16th, 18th and 19th centuries by the French poetesses Louise Labé, Marceline Desbordes-Valmore and Renée Vivien, with rich melodic compositions drawing their inspiration from the rhythms, effects and phrasing of electronic and urban music.
lyrics
Je sens languir mon cœur, qui cherche à me quitter ;
Je tressaille, j'écoute... et j'espère immobile ;
Et l'on dirait que Dieu touche un roseau débile ;
Tremblante, je me sauve en te tendant les bras ;
Je n'ose te parler, et j'ai peur de t'entendre ;
