Suite of Rooms is the spellbinding new album by French musician, producer and songwriter Julienne Dessagne, aka Fantastic Twins.

Based on the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, and reworked from her composition for a contemporary dance piece ‘Méandres,’ ‘Suite of Rooms’ is a mesmerizing odyssey of leftfield techno, exquisite kosmische, and vintage soundtrack atmospheres.

As suggested by its title, ‘Suite of Rooms’ is intended as a space for the listener to navigate and explore – a place to get lost...Unfolding across five tracks, structured and articulated around the main aspects of the myth, ‘Suite of Rooms’ vividly explores abstract, multifaceted ideas connected with mythology, symbolism and labyrinthine conceptions of human experience.

Richly allusive yet strikingly atmospheric, the LP draws inspiration from an eclectic range of music, ranging from classic opera to high-budget soundtracks, and beyond. It’s also informed through extensive research including André Gide’s ‘Theseus,’ Walter Benjamin’s ‘On Hashish,’ and Viktor Pelevin’s ‘The Helmet Of Horror.’

Utilising modular synthesis, multilayered sound sources, as well as an array of artificial and real voices, Dessagne harnesses a fundamentally psychedelic approach to sound on ‘Suite of Rooms’. A concise yet intricate masterwork, it embodies what one of Dessagne’s many cited writers describes as the defining, dualistic characteristics of the labyrinth – a construction that reveals both “superb design and unfathomable chaos”.
