Ghas

Ghas was a fanzine published by Carol Gregory, Eve Harvey and John Harvey in the UK. It was one of the comparatively few fanzines produced in A4 landscape format. All the editors had been involved with the Leeds University SF Society although the Harveys had already moved to London. The title was an initialism, using G from Gregory, HA from John Harvey and S from Simmons, Eve Harvey's maiden name. She and John were already married by the time the first issue was planned but as she wrote in an editorial in 2, "...Ghah isn't quite as aesthetically pleasing as Ghas – it also makes it look as though there are more people involved".

Ghas was often sercon in tone, with reviews and critical articles, and interview with the likes of Harry Harrison (1) and Brian Stableford (2). Paul Kincaid described it as, "the sort of zine I favour, containing serious and interesting information and comment on sf" and Rob Hansen said, "It reads a bit like SFM minus the abominable stories". Gregory provided the art work, praised by Kincaid as "quiet and restrained, which makes a refreshing change from some of the illo-packed zines around".

Keith Freeman, writing in Matrix 12 (June 1977) said of the third issue, " Plenty of artwork and dear reproduction as well as the interesting and varied articles make this a fanzine worth looking forward to."

After its final issue it was in some senses continued as Wallbanger where an editorial in issue 1 says, "So here is GHAS 5 cunningly disguised as Wallbanger 1".
