I was at the plant nursery today. For reasons, my 6yo had a beetle in a jar which we had brought to be identified by a knowledgeable friend who was also going to be there. I loaded up my plants in my car and as it was hot out, packed kiddo into the car with the AC on while I helped my friend do plant tetris in her car 2 spots over.

How to get notified about Steam Hardware news the instant it's announced...

Like, I don’t want to hear about the Steam Machine’s price, registration date, or launch date 8 hours after the news comes out. I want to hear about it instantly! I want to be woken up. I want an Android App that subscribes to a webhook, runs in the background, and sounds an alarm when there’s news. You know, like an Amber Alert but for Steam hardware.

I searched for a bed like this but didn’t find anything I liked that was well-built and affordable. So, I’m building this one out of solid wood for about $450. (Except I had to buy a new miter saw, because my old one was stolen out of my garage about two years ago, so that was another $250.)

The future of AI in Ubuntu [Except it's Blockchains instead of AI]

Community iconc/linux@programming.dev by
brianpeiris@lemmy.ca
The future of AI in Ubuntu [Except it's Blockchains instead of AI]. Apr 27. As 2026 progresses, Blockchain-based tools are becoming more and more ubiquitous. Adoption across the tech industry has been mixed, both in terms of which projects are embracing “Blockchain” technologies, and in how companies are structuring their adoption. As a result, I’m frequently asked about what Canonical and Ubuntu will do (or not) to incorporate Blockchains. In this post I’ll detail how Blockchains will play a part in both Canonical and Ubuntu’s future, my framework for classifying Blockchain features in the OS, and how Canonical is currently approaching adoption internally, because I think that will help paint a picture of our intent. The bottom line is that Canonical is ramping up its use of Blockchain tools in a focused and principled manner that favours open blockchains with license terms that feel most compatible with our values, combined with open source contracts. Blockchain features will be landing in Ubuntu throughout the next year as we feel that they’re of sufficient maturity and quality, with a bias toward private blockchains by default. Blockchain features in Ubuntu features will come in two forms: first as a means of enhancing existing OS functionality with blockchains in the background, and latterly in the form of “Blockchain native” features and workflows for those who want them.

I think one helpful trick when thinking about AI hype is to replace mentions of “AI” with “Blockchain” to see how silly it all sounds.

There’s a popular-ish open source game I remember playing a few years ago, Warsow, and when I checked on it now, it’s been forked and while the fork is genuinely better and funner to play in so many ways, it expects to be launched through Steam. I wanted to tinker with maps and stuff and started researching, and while I did find what I was looking for somewhat in older Warsow-related threads, when I went to the official warfork-qfusion github repo looking for specific documentation for the new fork, I was greeted with a link to their Discord “if you have any questions”.

Growing microgreens without soil. Minimal design, no screws or adhesive. Twist ties to keep the lights up, removable shelf liners to block light between shelves. 24” by 12” shelf with 6 levels for 2 trays each. So 6 times the capacity in the same amount of horizontal space. The v1 and v2 had several issues that prevented them from being this simple and productive. The idea is to be able to sell these trays containing live microgreens that are near harvest age, such that you do not need any refrigeration or extra packaging. The tray is covered in the first purchase, which then when returned lowers your purchase price for the next time. So you are provided with a tray of live greens that you give very basic care, and you can harvest your live greens when you choose. This has been proven to be viable with a family member, and the shelf life of live greens is significantly longer than cut greens in a clam shell which require refrigeration. I am at the point where I’m cycling 2 peas and 2 radish trays, and I’m soaking more sooner to get a full set of 3 for a total of 12 trays in circulation. https://masland.tech/microgreens/
