In order to deal with executive dysfunction, what works sometimes is to just do a little. E. g. instead of a full workout, I say: I can’t do a full workout, but I CAN do 1 pushup, or 1 set.

You not only miss your stop, but the whole way, your paranoid that you will. You will get distracted and then suddenly fear washes over you, only to realize your still 30 min away. Or maybe, on bad day, you need up on the other side of town.

We have all seen those memes about how seeing people Info-dump is the hottest thing ever, but even in normal conversations listening to people talk is chore in of itself. I get bored quickly and look somewhere else or interrupt them with my own thoughts or try to predict what they are going to say.

Confession time...

by
domusaltera@piefed.social

One of the big reasons I haven’t gotten diagnosed for ADHD yet is that I assume they’ll prescribe meds and that will create a concept called “meds” that others can bully me with. No one can tell you to take your meds if you don’t have any lol.

My want to retake my meds but my wife doesn't want me to. Any advice?

by
SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I’m trying to retake the medication that I took back in high school (Concerta) so I can study for and eventually take the Comptia A+ exam. The idea being that I’ve a decently-paying remote job that will benefit both my wife and I. My wife, however, refuses to let me get my meds. This isn’t the first we’ve had this conversion and every time she says the same thing: “You just need to focus naturally”, “It’s all in your head”, “Doctors are only in it for themselves” and so on. There’s no getting through to her and I’m tired of trying to get to reason with me. I think I’m going to get my meds in secret and hide them. I know that this is a bad idea but she leaves me no choice. Any advice?

Chronic Insomnia

by
weimaraner_of_doom@piefed.social

Hi all! I was formally diagnosed with ADHD in my mid 20’s. Currently taking generic Vyvanse and Guanfacine. Getting on meds was a huge quality of life improvement. One thing that I still struggle with is chronic insomnia, which is a common commorbidity with – or maybe symptom of – ADHD. The insomnia started around the time I hit puberty and I can count on one hand the number of great nights sleeps I’ve had since then.

Why is diagnosis/assessment such an access issue in America and elsewhere?

by

Like, if its nots public health system its obviusly price-gated for obvious reasons (it can be a commodity or boutique diagnosis for the rich and connected to get their sweet-sweet pharma speed)

American ADHD'ers: settle a bet: how cheap+available (uninsured) is dextroamphetamine SR or ER/XR single ingredient?

by
cheese_greater@lemmy.world

I obliquely was referring to how insanely priced Dexedrine Spansules are in America and they countered with (unknowingly) that generics are almost always available for basically every med in America. Which, they’re not outrageously (seemingly) totally out there but I dont think it totally captures how fucked US prices are for even the staples sometimes

ADHD is not a quirk. It is ruining my life. I am disorganized, I am in debt, I am paralyzed. I thought I found one, once, but sike, he’s an addiction counselor who refuses to prescribe stimulant medication on principle.

Echolalia

by
LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world

Within the last month or two I learned here that echolalia is an ADHD symptom. Apparently it’s not neurotypical to constantly have songs going through your head that haunt you for days on end and they come into your head when you don’t want them and you hate these songs like it’s raining right now and I absolutely hate that song by the Eurythmics “here comes the rain again” but I fucking hate that song and that Annie Lennox woman with the man haircut who wears men’s clothes staring into my eyes from her MTV video, and it’s playing in my head. Help please. Is there a way to get rid of these songs in my head. They never end.

Reason Behind Increasing ADHD Rates??

by
sahin@lemmy.world

One of them is the increased number of people caring for mental status, but the other one is, we are living in an era that requires long hours of computer usage which is against the living way of an ADHD person. We need to walk, go out, spend energy, but nowadays we have to stay in an office, look at a screen, which is so boring.

If I’m doing something for someone (the dishes, cooking a meal, tidying up, decorating a Xmas tree) and they don’t know I’m doing it, then I hear them approaching (keys in the front door, the sound of someone getting out of bed upstairs) and I get a huge panicky feeling because if they discover me before I’ve finished it and they:

Have you tried tDCS? What have been your experiences?

by
persona_non_gravitas@piefed.social

I used to use tDCS, transcranial direct current stimulation, for depression*. It worked surprisingly well, I was more ‘stable’ and got myself out more, slept better, had amazing vivid dreams; then again most of these are typical placebo effects of any antidepressant changes for me, that fade in a few months. And I kept failing to stick to evening routines.

I was diagnosed 20 years ago. I joined this forum and was astonished when I saw a post entitled “what kind of earplugs do you have?” I thought “wait, you all have ear plugs too?” My point is that when I was diagnosed, we didn’t know all these things about ADHD (auditory sensitivities, etc). I used to flip shit and get angry immediately when I heard leaf blowers. Certain sounds would send me over the edge when I was younger. I am also finding out about a correlation between ADHD and rejection dysphoria. What book can I read to find out what else I don’t know that’s been discovered since 2005?
