Is Sleep Paralysis Dangerous? - Sleeping Resources
Sleep paralysis occurs when a sleeping person becomes conscious of the REM atonia (a process that cuts off electrical signals btwn your brain & muscles so your body doesn’t act out dreams); you feel your muscles being paralyzed. Part of your mind is awake, but since your body is still asleep, a part of your brain believes you're in dreamland. Your body remains inert & your mind conjures hallucinations. It is the fear of paralysis that leads to the menacing hallucinations. Very scary
