British Royal Jewels on Instagram: "My favorite jewel moment tonight was The Duchess of Gloucester wearing the historic Teck Turquoise Parure! The story of the Teck Turquoise Parure begins in 1850 when Princess Mary Adelaide (Queen Mary’s mother) was given three diamond and turquoise bow brooches as a confirmation gift. In 1893 when her daughter, the future Queen Mary, was married, Princess Mary Adelaide and her husband the Duke of Teck presented her with a turquoise parure that included the three brooches. The tiara (pictured here from Geoffrey Munn’s Tiaras: A History of Splendour) originally had more of a peaked centerpiece which Queen Mary later had redesigned. Queen Mary was photographed wearing the jewels early in her marriage (photo from @royalmagazin_royaljewels_new ) and later
Gloucester brooch
Diamond and pink topaz brooch worn by Birgitte Duchess of Gloucester. It originally belonged to Queen Mary’s grandmother Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge, who left it to her daughter Augusta, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Queen Mary and her aunt had a very close relationship and the Grand Duchess later left her the brooch. Queen Mary gave the brooch to Princess Alice before her marriage to Prince Henry.
