Cinnamon in the Sandbox - It keeps the bugs away! Haven't tried this but I do know that a similar amount of red pepper (possibly paprika--you'd have to experiment) keeps cats from sneaking in and using it as a litter box. It works well in the landscaping, too, if a neighbor's or wild cat sprays.
