Annotating Text for Close Reading Student Handout (kinder-2nd grade)

This is a handout of an anchor chart that I use with my students to annotate their text during close reading with complex text. This should be taught first in a whole-group setting in order to thoroughly teach the symbols. Once students feel comfortable and understand the purpose and way to annotate, they can use this handout to help them annotate text independently, with partners, or in small groups. To save paper/printing, I would print about 10 of these in color on cardstock and laminate them. In my classroom we do rotations during our literacy block so I can use these as necessary and still have enough for independent work as each group generally has 5-6 students.
