Step Up 2D/3D Blu-ray Review

Saw it in the theaters a couple weeks ago and thought the 3D was good. Really like the scenes cruising around the streets of New York.

You are right Blu! This movie was awesome in 3D, I can't wait to add this to my collection. Great use of 3D and choreography!

I loved what they did with the ICEE's. That was a really cool effect. Can't wait to see that climax dance off again too. The theme they used looked so cool. Don't want to ruin it. But you guys know what I'm talking about.

I'll be purchasing it for sure. I love dancing, and I love 3D. I'm sure the storyline will be awful...but I'm not going in expecting Citizen Kane.

Default The most disappointing 3D version going!

Received mine today (UK) and all I can say is that the 3D is rubbish. Absolutely the worse one in existence, do not buy. It is blurry and ghosting beyond belief. It is that bad - we turned off and watched the 2D one.

Do not buy. Appauling.

I live in the UK and also got my copy today. I don't know what 3DTV you've got, mate, but there was no ghosting on mine. In fact I have to say it's one of the best for non-ghosting(the worst being, by far, the IMAX movie, 'Dinosaurs Alive'. That one is, in a single word, dreadful). I've also got the other 3D dance movie(purchased from Amazon's German site): 'Street Dance 3D' and the only ghosting on that disc is confined to the menu screen!

It's possible you might have a faulty disc so I'd suggest returning it, or try watching it on another 3DTV, that way you should be able to judge it better.

John.

Step up is actually one of the best (if not the best) 3D film Ive seen at cinemas this year (3D wise only!) every dance scene has a sweet gimmick going on....oops where did that water come from, oh-ohh someones got dirt on their shoes, look out I spilled my slurpee...and it all looks killer!! The dance battles are actually intense....you really care who wins. And special cred goes to "our girl" Sharni Vinson whos tight bod looks freakishly stacked in 3D! I was constantly trying to spot her out doing her thing in the group scenes...strangly they seem to pop her into the background with not much to do (I think she lacks the power moves of the other girls)
I have to mention too the final scene ( during credits ) is hands down THE BEST 3D experience this little black duck has had to date! It consists of.... A man.....A chair.....and a pair of hands....no motion captue....no 300 million budget. Just one maaaaad dude working out to the maxx, this glorious technology we have been gifted...I was grinning for the duration! cant wait to re-visit

Got Step Up 3D last night, lots of cool 3D effects and every scene had incredible depth! They particularly used a lot of pop out tricks with the dance battles like the one with the rain, dancers movements come right out at you. Highly recommended!!

yes, yes, yes! to say the 3D was excellent would be an understatement - this surprised the hell out of me - saw it twice in the theatre and the 7.1 discrete soundmix - ace!!!

Liked it in the theater. Good to hear the Blu-ray turned out well. Maybe I should get this before Legends Of The Guardians. It'd be nice to have some more live action 3D that looks good.

Undecided.

EDIT:
This is a multiple thread (mod?), but anyways, here is the 'original' website with coupon-link for both the US, as well as for Canada: http://www.myspace.com/stepupmovie

It worked for me in Canada now also (finally). Although I am positive I chose the Canada(EN)-button, the right bottom-corner of the printed coupon says: "Good in U.S.A.". Anyone had this as well

SECOND EDIT:
I just went to a HMV-store (very busy these days), and they said they knew about that note "Good in U.S.A.", but would accept the voucher anyway; and they did. It costed me CAD 27 instead of CAD 37 (plus tax, of course).

Step Up 2D/3D Blu-ray Review

Quote:
Disney's on a roll with Blu-ray 3D transfers; the converted Alice in Wonderland looks fantastic, and the studio's latest 3D release, the native 3D Step Up 3D, is every bit its equal. The transfer's 3D attributes are quite good. Depth is fine but not extraordinary, but then again, most of the movie takes place indoors and in smaller spaces compared to some of the vast exteriors of Alice or Avatar. The image features a fair sense of space as characters are nicely offset one from another and against varied background and foreground materials. The strongest 3D elements come from dance moves and titles; the picture's title card rotates to good effect, and digital titles signaling several of the dance competitions seem to explode out of the screen. A few lesser but no less impressive effects appear throughout, notably as balloons and bubbles seem to float in front of the screen early in the movie as Moose performs his first impromptu dance. Better yet, several dancers and their moves seem to jump out of the television on several occasions. "Ghosting" is kept to a minimum, and the overall 3D effect is clean and accurate. Additionally, Step Up 3D offers up a broad array of brilliant hues, each one accurate and clean even through the 3D filter. Detailing is strong throughout, particularly the texture of clothes and various brick and concerete structures around New York. The image occasionally has something of a plastic-like texture, attributable to the HD video source. Banding, aliasing, and blocking are non-factors. This is a strong Blu-ray 3D transfer from Disney that approaches, if not achieves, reference quality.
