I hope this is a new transfer as the current Lowry is okay-ish but it's kinda tired. I highly doubt it'll have the original stereo audio (oh man, if they Atmos-ise the current 5.1 remix it's gonna sound tragically bad) but a boy can dream.

I'm shocked that this is coming out, and very happy for all fans of the movie.

However I fear this will be another problematic release for casual audiences and maybe even reviewers, or guys that are getting into 4k and are buying movies more indiscriminately than usual, movies stuff that they're not familiar with.
Because unless I'm mistaken, this movie is notorious for its soft look, even out-of-focus shots and the occasional botched optical, due to a somewhat sloppy shoot.

Whereas for lovers of the old-school film-look I guess this has the potential of looking great.

Maybe the iconic status of the movie will pull it through. Does this mean anything for under 40 year olds though?

It was shot anamorphic, that process is what it is and the Coke opticals are another thing entirely. But yes, this will no doubt have lots of "pro" reviewers calling it very soft and fuzzy and whatnot. Par for the course.

Also they need to include the original stereo mix or at the very least create a new mix and jettison that POS that's currently available.

Good news for my wife, one of her all time favorite movies. But can anyone please translate what that article was saying? All I can understand that it was in French and coiming out in 2018. I know thats all we need to know, but courious what it said.

I would be surprised if it does not release in the US...
In the worst case you could still import it. UHD Blu-ray are all region-free.

There are so many paramount films that need proper remasters (*cough *cough Mission impossible, Italian Job) yet they decide to 4k remaster this. P.s. i sound negative because i loathe this movie

Hopefully Saturday Night Fever is not far behind. Given how good the 4K remastered BD turned out, it's easy to be positive on that one.
