Sweden Roma - Criterion Collection (Nordic/Scandinavian Edition)

I knew that Roma was coming to Blu-ray but this is a nordic Criterion Collection release!? The first of it's kind.

This is very, very exciting and I hope that there is more to come in the near future. Everyone should support this release to show that we want more Criterion in our region.

This is more of a one-off with Criterion branding, but it's not really a Criterion release. It's handled by Warner, and the same is being done in numerous countries. Perhaps it's possible that something similar could happen with other Netflix titles down the road too, like The Irishman, and Marriage Story.

I guess that is true. It was just really exciting to see the cover art. But maybe there is a chance for more if this sells well. The other Netflix movies is a big possibility.

But I still think it's strange to brand this release a Criterion release if it's just a one-off. I mean the whole essence of the Criterion Collection is to build your own collection of quality cinema from all around the world. If they just release one movie this way it doesn't make any sense. And from a business perspective it would make sense to include more local subtitles on their releases to increase sales around the world.

Unfortunately not. This Criterion branded nordic release is one of the weirdest editions I have ever seen. I mean, why do this if you don’t plan to continue? One movie is not a collection. Such a weird and random thing to do instead of just changing the artwork.

I really had hope that we would at least get the other big Netflix movies ”The Irishman”, ”Marriage Story” and ”Uncut Gems” that has been released by Criterion.

I still dream that we one day will get Criterion Nordic with nordic subtitles and more reasonable prices(compared to imports), but I guess that will never happen.
