Darren Aronofsky Set To Direct ‘The Whale’ For A24

We have learned that Darren Aronofsky is currently developing his next feature film, an adaption of Samuel D. Hunter’s The Whale for A24.

The film will be written for the screen and directed by Darren Aronofsky, whose built quite the name for himself with films like Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, Black Swan, and Noah.

His last feature film was mother! in 2017 starring Jennifer Lawrence. Audiences followed a couple’s relationship which is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. The film received wide amounts of controversy upon release for its biblical subtext, depictions of violence, and unorthodox direction.

In Samuel D. Hunter’s play The Whale, the audience follows a 600-hundred-pound recluse, hiding away from the world and slowly eating himself to death, who is given one last chance at redemption. This fits right in with Aronofsky’s dark and out of the box interests.

He did an interview a couple of years ago which was quite revealing. He reckons he was blacklisted after being sexually assaulted by the ex-president of the HFPA.

Had me at Aronofsky and owned my soul at Fraser.

Always loved that man. He was great in Gods and Monsters, not to mention a lot of other solid performances, but that film was better than I remembered when I watched it last.
