It's not really Rush without Neil Peart on drums. Kind of like Journey without Steve Perry.

They said pretty much so in an interview many years ago. "There's no replacing anyone". They were super tight and considered eachother like brothers. That's why there's been such a long pause in doing something as "Rush".

But... they are still musicians, and you don't get to their level and just drop the passion for music for the rest of their lives. This decision is quite understandable, and I think they will honor Neil's memory in continuing to tour.

I personally love what Linkin Park did having Emily on vocals, and now Rush bringing in Anika on drums, I get the no replacing, not the (put band name here) without so and so. But what great opportunities for these ladies. I’m here for it, and I highly doubt Neil would disapprove, I’m betting he would be proud of this pick.
The obvious choices would have been Mike or Danny, this was the better choice for many reasons, Rush fans should be proud of this choice..

Well Journey was Journey before Steve Perry stepped in, and has been Journey without Steve Perry for what? 3 decades? They have been Journey without Steve, longer then they were with Steve,
I think Journey is doing just fine without Steve.

Also, if they so choose, Steve could rejoin Journey, because he is still alive!!

Neil is dead, so there is no other choice Rush has but to recruit someone else, and again, at one time RUSH was RUSH without Neil, and they will be RUSH again without Neil ( unfortunately of course ) but it is what it is..

I spent a good portion of yesterday listening to Anika on Qbuz yesterday. The girl can for sure play. I think that the new version of Rush will certainly honor Neil. I also have a sneaking suspicion that we may get to hear some new music. I have ZERO evidence of this. It is strictly my opinion.

At first I was a hard no, but now I see they just want to play music in front of their fans. As long as they honor Neil (and I'm sure they will) I think it's cool. 10 years since they toured and 5 years since Neil's sad passing.

Not to start a huge OT discussion. I do think Led Zep did the right thing when Bonzo died. He truly couldn't be replaced. Zep was equal parts of 4 and with only 3 and a replacement, it wouldn't have worked.

I've heard and seen Jason several times and while he does an admirable job, he's not his father. There is a "swing, groove and timing" thing I've never heard anyone duplicate when playing Zep songs. As great as Page is/was with his riffs and odd tuning and production values, JPJ and Bonham took some of the songs to another level, that IMO, can't be replicated.

I am excited to hear/see some new live Rush and see how it all works out. None of us are getting any younger so let's just do it and enjoy it.

We still got a Zeppelin reunion with Jason on the drums, and it was incredible IMO!!

I truly believe Robert had his sights on doing other things outside of Zeppelin long before John passed, his death just expedited his exit..

Before Steve Perry joined Journey, they really weren't going anywhere. Name just one hit song they have had since his departure. The Beatles had Stu Sutcliff and Pete Best in their lineup when the band started off but they were replaced early on by George and Ringo. Queen wasn't well known until Freddy Mercury came along. The lineups can and do change. I accept that and I am ok with it. In the case of Rush, they may go on and I hope to great success, but the lineup that made them who they were and what we as fans will forever remember, can never be equaled or replaced.

Are you saying the Journey albums didn’t sell well, and they didn’t have hits with Steve or Arnel? Their albums sold well, and had 3-4 hit songs, granted not the level of the ones with Steve, I’m not disputing the greatness Journey was with Steve, but they still sell out the places they play without Steve, and Arnel has a great voice to those classic songs we all love..

I can honestly say, I never knew that about The Beatles..

I'm a huge early Rush fan. But let's not forget that Geddy Lee lost his ability to sing long before the band stopped touring, it was kind of embarrassing.
I get that you can't sing in his original range forever, but when you drop two octaves, and still can't do it, time to retire.

If you don’t come out with any new material and you tour solely on the classic hits, you’re kind of somewhere between the real thing and a cover band.

I saw Foreigner about 10 years ago, and it was a great show. Kelley Hanson was fantastic: great showman, great voice, but he was singing songs made famous by Lou Gramm.

Same with Journey. People go see them in concert to hear the songs made famous by Steve Perry. Arnel is great…at recreating Steve Perry’s voice.

So, I wouldn’t say it’s not Rush, but I can’t say it truly is Rush either. Probably be a great show either way though.

Well, their longevity says otherwise. 😃

Most influential? That's a stretch, but I give them props for their longevity and sticking to their formula. Most marketed band; for sure. I Idolized them growing up the 70's.....then I grew up...lol. They put on a great show, perhaps one of the most entertaining in rock.

If they didn't go over the top with their shtick and just relied on the music, their longevity would have suffered a lot, IMO. Put on the most entertaining show, give 110%, and appreciate your fans and the mediocre music can be overlooked :D

One thing I give them huge credit for is recognizing they would be nothing without their fans. Not every band praises their fans as much as Kiss does.

I was not a fan until I met Paul Stanley. I set him up with a cell phone back in the day and he set me up with front row and back stage passes... Very nice guy. Gene stays in "demon" mode until the makeup comes off, and then he is just an azz hole.
