Anybody heard of Physicians Health Group?

I'm 25 and healthy and very rarely ever go to the doctor. Maybe once every three years. But thats mainly because I don't have insurance..

They called me today and said they could offer me health benefits (not insurance) for $69.00 a month. Is this good. I would like to have insurance so I thought I might look into it..

You will be paying $877 a year, just to get a discount? Seems at your age, it would be cheaper to just pay cash. And what do you do if your service provider doesn't participate?

If you do have a real issue, you need insurance. For example, last year I had an MRI and a CAT scan, total charges were about $8000, even at 45% off, you would owe a ton of money.

    Very true.

    I think I'll pass.

I was doing a little research and it looks like I can get actual insurance for about $50.00 a month from Anthem Blue Shield and others....

The only real reason for interest was I would like to get braces and maybe my back looked at. Neither I can really afford on my own...

  • I’ve seen offers like that before, and they’re usually discount programs, not actual insurance. They can help you save on routine visits or prescriptions, but they won’t cover hospital bills, surgeries, or emergencies. I tried a similar plan once when I was between jobs — it was fine for checkups, but useless when I had a real medical issue.

If you’re generally healthy, it might be okay as a short-term option, but you should still look into a proper insurance plan that caps your out-of-pocket costs. Always read the fine print carefully and check whether local doctors actually accept the discount network. For comparison, https://premierpmi.co.uk/
has a few clear explanations on how medical benefit programs differ from full insurance coverage, which can help you spot the difference before signing anything.

    Personally, I'd walk away.

All the "discounts of up to xx amount of percent"....
Even what they may pay is a warning in itself.
