    Hi boston1450,

I'm definitely open to any other brand. I just happened to notice that Adcom had these newer versions of their amps available at an affordable price so I was curious if anyone here had any experience with them. But I'm open to whatever will do a good job giving the SDA 2B's what they need to sound their best.

Just to make sure I understood correctly, are you saying that you feel the Parasound 2250 was an upgrade compared to the Adcom 555?

To me at that time it was. I had to make a choice as the Adcom was in need to be refreshed & possibly upgraded. So I choose to get the Parasound. I listened to it when I got it & stored the Adcom 555 which worked fine but at the time was overdue. I ended up selling it off. I enjoyed the Adcom & it sounded great on SDA's & I knew if I spent the $$$ it would have been awesome. i have heard the newer 555ii & it sounded very nice. The newer ones I have not

No good for SDA speakers but, that seems like a very nice price for a 300w amp?

    The 5802 is/was a great amp for SDA’s, especially with a Dreadnought or A1.

You can run them with the Negs bridged,
but it’s on a whole different level with a Dreadnought..

Hi Rhythm, I power my 2B's with a Yamaha A-S2200 and for me it was look no further. I listen mostly to acoustic instruments and ambient electronic in hi-def, and the definition, attack, imaging and soundstage are amazing (with Dreadnaught). So good it even fools my cat who will start looking for the little bird in the center of the soundstage. Great piece of kit for the price, no digital anything. If you want to rock the house, there are better options, but if you want lifelike sound, worth a look.

Where's the large capacitors in the new version?

They went to not so large capacitors if I had to guess 😁

Don’t confuse cap dimensions with uf value.

For example, the diffs* between the P’sound 1000 and 1000A are higher value PS filter caps w/similar external dimensions. Can’t recall Y/N for a rail voltage diff
    *plus higher output & remote 12V turn-on

A 555 related note in addition to the Darlington discussion above, I recall reading “somewhere” Adcom switched output devices (ie bi-polar to MOSFETs) w/sound signature change. But don’t take my word for it. I welcome correction from the more knowledgeable.

    Enjoy Tony

In my time rebuilding the levinson amp so far... Most modern day capacitors are smaller than the ones used back in the day but if all of the specs are very close, ripple, esr, etc... Not that dramatically so.

The only way I have seen you could dramatically reduce the size would be compromise on some of those ratings

The large capacitors on the adcom 555se are hiding under the circuit boards.
