Mighty Doom This album is truly mesmerizing! It answers the question I didn't even know to ask, "What if Skepticism's Stormcrowfleet didn't have guitars?" And the answer is powerful, sombre, and epic. Favorite track: Catacombs for the Broken Stars (Eternal Desert).
Bertrand Marchal
Bertrand Marchal thumbnail
Bertrand Marchal when its huge voice is righlty contained, the organ is an instrument that has its place in a Funeral doom song; along quasi-religious rituals, Forged Relics make the best out of it, keeping its massive presence in line with the sobriety of the compositions that expand in a very solemn, despondent pace. FD hardcore fans should like this.
Saffron Robe

Saffron Robe Much as I enjoy Leechfeast this is just as good if not better. The more sludgy/punky/anarchic aspects have been stripped away, revealing a much purer funeral doom metal sound. NWoFDM indeed and Forged Relics are at the crest of that wave!

Borrowed Forms (Eternal Sea) Yesterday’s ruins lay forgotten in the algal fields Low light caresses plastic bones and corroded iron bodies, sunken into the silent abyss Wave upon wave, swirling towards the shore - a borrowed form, waiting to be swallowed back with the rest of it all Another storm passes over the gleaming silver foam, innumerable memories eager to leave Eager to disappear in the salty wind, washed of all filth

Catacombs for the Broken Stars (Eternal Desert) Pieces of stars falling, diamond droplets crashing into the sand Each one blooms a scorpion, teneral and timid, writhing under cold black drapery I’ll pick them up, fragile fears, and carry them across the land, dig their burrows beneath the rocks I’ll Hide them deep, away from everyone Down, where the fossorial voices sing Catacombs for the broken stars Down, where the fossorial voices sing Moonlight sets fire to the hills and the winds come out to dance I’m lighting candles down here again Down in the catacombs for the broken stars

about

From the ashes of Slovenia’s finest sludge-punk miscreants Leechfeast emerges a new, eerie project. Forged Relics summon music that gestures towards both the Divine and Heretical, stripping doom down to an austere and minimalist arrangement of drums, vocals and organ, that is rich in understated majesty and devout apostasy.

Mired in censer smoke-laden atmosphere, slow, cascading drums peal out alongside plaintive, regal organ notes as guttural vocals slither and expel into the ether. A sense of looming presence permeates, the ineffable paired with crushing unorthodox heaviness.

Across its 37 minutes, Portal utilises the repetition and ritualism of Doom Metal, Chamber music and Drone. Hinting at the baleful works of Profetus, Abandon and Mournful Congregation and also the stark, ceremonial beauty of Kali Malone and Sarah Davachi.

Mesmerizing and sonorous - beckoning towards something truly ancient.

To listen is to be transported, emerging from the throng and wooden pews, into the light, keenly watching across the haze of Adriatic horizon that is unending. Infinite. Eternal.
