Wednesday Mix

During my walk I photographed some spring impressions. Wood anemones are blooming

and somebody has a good supply of fire wood...

We have had a fun campaign for kids due to Covid-19: people have put teddybears

on their window sills for kids to notice. This big teddybear was close to a mailbox...

But the best sight is blooming maples, birches sprouting and pink cherries!

You can say it also without words!

has led the government with calm and wisdom.

This shows clearly in increase of the support of her party, Social Democratic Party.

According to Alma Media the support has risen to 21,1 % from 16, 7 % in a short time.

Celebrating Friendship

There are two ’working’ dogs in my local pet shop. When we go shopping, 

we usually go to see them and my husband buys them treats. Marlon is the older, a cute & fluffy 

Samoyed and his younger brother is Puntti = Pound, a huge & handsome Newfoundlander 

who wins all junior dog shows! They are too lively for better photos!

A Pleasant Surprise

To many like me, seeing a dentist is not a nice thought or experience.

In January I was pleasantly surprised seeing my dental hygienist in a new place.

The waiting room was light & airy & beautiful and on the wall there were

these sunny paintings which reminded of summer or vacation!

It seems I have cut away all dental stuff being not so photogenic :)

Today we celebrate our national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877).

These traditional Runeberg pastries are sweet & fattening but so good!

Runeberg's heroic poem The Tales of Ensign Stål is considered the greatest Finnish epic poem 
outside the Kalevala tradition and contains tales of the Finnish War of 1808–09 with Russia. 

In the war, Sweden lost Finland, which became a Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire. 

The first poem Our Land became the Finnish National Anthem, composed by Fredric Pacius.

Every Day Life in January

A view through my kitchen window. He have a lot of

The warming of the climate shows: January is exceptionally warm & grey. 
What to do when outside activities do not tempt? Read of course! 
I have read a lot and Sissi has kept me company.

At last I read Hemingway’s classic For whom The Bell Tolls.

The Spanish Civil War has interested me a lot and I have read earlier a few books about it.

Kersti Juva has a 50-years career in translating English literature into Finnish.

Her new non-fiction book A Discovery Trip into Finnish was a brilliant experience.
