Friday Bliss #168 - This and That

I have shown you my white Christmas cactus already, but once more.

I think it looks stunning in this face pot!

I even used it in photographing Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-up Bird Chronicle

for my book blog. Just read it, quite a job, nearly 900 pages!

The final of the Finnish Dancing With Stars was on last Sunday for the 14th season!

The programme is very popular here, with over a million spectators. 

The three top couples were almost equally good:  singer-songwriter Krista Siegfrieds,

operasinger Waltteri Torikka and actor Ernest Lawson.

The public voted Ernest Lawson and his dancing teacher Anniina Koivuniemi to be the winners.

 We have made preparations for the arrival of the kittens and have tried to finish all 

pending houshold renovating jobs, so that we can totally concentrate on Selma and Silva. 

Of course they will be frightened in the beginning, but good that they are two. Still one week to go!

One big job was to install new basin cupboard and mirror cupboard to our small toilet.

A tough job for my husband but he succeeded well!

We rejoiced of the first snow, but then it all melted away.

At the moment there is a bit of snow on the ground. It was a grey day, as you can see!

Christmas in Miniature

I have a lot of miniatures left, even though the hobby has been on hold for a long time. 

I keep my miniature objects in plastic candy boxes and made a Christmas setting 

to a greenhouse lantern. The Christmas tree, tiled stove, fern, bouquet of flowers and 

chocolate cupcakes were made by me, cross-stitch pillows on the floor came from a swap.

Friday Bliss #116 - Flowers That Don’t Wither

Last week Loretta and Wolfgang wrote about posters in home decoration and I thought 

to share today some flowers that don’t wither.  I have many small flower paintings / posters

which I photographed for you. Most of these are in my newly renovated room.

I have had the above white peonies by Clay Perry for many years. 

He has fantastic floral photos, please see the link!

This is oil on silk. It was originally a congratulation card that I framed. 

The size of painting part is 16 x 12 cm.

This fairy sitting on a flower is a wood carving by my aunt.

This oil painting is really tiny, the size only 7 x 7cm.

These fabric squares of only one inch are not flowers but go to this post. They came from 

a swap group to which I belonged years ago. They look nice in a golden framed shadow box.

And yes, I have these fake white phalaenopsis as well!

Fur Safe & Stripes

A few photos from my kitchen. We have a widening of the window sill

where Sissi keeps an eye on birds. It is covered with DC Fix, imitating weathered wood 

with stripes. Also the wooden blinds create stripes for Makrotex. The candles are fur safe, 

leds with batteries. Every extra light is needed in this November darkness.

Konmaritusta kotona - KonMari at Home

This week’s topic at Makrotex is AT HOME. As it is mostly staying at home 

due to the coronavirus, it is perfect time to sort out the mess and renovate a bit.

We are dumping this and that and renovating the two upstairs bedrooms - i.e. painting the walls

and installing a new laminate floor. A lot of work, but finally we get something done!

You probably know Japanese Marie Kondo & her KonMari organizing system.

I read these two books of hers to get inspired. I am not intending to fold my underware though,

nor am as minimalistic. But I want more airy home & calm & cosy feeling.

These poles are an example what we have been doing. These poles were lying

unused for years. The paint was bad but I repainted them and voilà!

I think they decorate my sedum planting nicely.

We have had strawberries and too much icecream - that is summer!

Chanterelles belong to summer, too.
