Kirjallisuusfestivaali Runokuu tällä viikolla Helsingissä. Teemana on tänä vuonna juuret. Runokuu-viikolla julkaisen yhden Estherin runon joka päivä. Runot ovat nimiltään Juuret, Värit, Taiteilijan inferno, Juuret savessa, Runoilijan polut ja Polun loppu.

The poetry festival Runokuu - Poetry Moon is celebrated this week in Helsinki. To celebrate the week  I post a poem every day. The author of all poems is the poet Esther Helmiä who lives in Germany. The first poem Roots is followed by Colors, Inferno of the Artist, Roots in Clay, Paths of a Poet and The End of the Path.

END OF THE PATH

In pouring rain

the organ chimes the final melody.

A hand with an umbrella 

searching for a handkerchief.

The walls are thundering and echoing,

rejected benches await the walker.

In the grave there lies a future legend,

only a gray-haired cartoonist while alive.

POLUN LOPPU

Kaatosateessa soi urut lopullista melodiaa. 

Sateenvarjoa pitelevä käsi 

haparoi nenäliinaa. 

Seinät pauhaavat kaikuna, 

penkit hyljeksittynä odottavat kulkijaa. 

Haudassa makaa tuleva legenda,

 eläessään vain harmaahapsinen pilapiirtäjä.

THE PATHWAYS OF A POET

The characters are playing with a pen,

words awaiting to be released.

Giant blocks located in Truth,

talking big, strong and brave.

The anonymous knows everything,

paints better, writes better,

knows everything better.

A woman smiles in her blue scarf,

in her golden frames,

there is an exhibition at the bus station.

To be endangered does not matter,

only capable wise men cry after it,

those inspired by a ping of cash registers.

Narrow pathways are for modest poets only,

just for those few.

RUNOILIJAN POLUT 

Kirjaimet leikkivät kynillä, 

vapautusta odottavat sanat. 

Totuudessa olevat järkäleet, 

vahvoina, uljaina uhoavat. 

Anonyymi tietää kaiken, 

maalaa paremmin, kirjoittaa paremmin, 

osaa kaiken paremmin.

Nainen hymyilee sinisessä huivissaan, 

kultaisissa kehyksissään 

linja-autoaseman seinällä on näyttely. 

Uhanalaisuus on katoavaa, 

ei sen perään itke kuin osaavat tietäjät, 

joita kassakoneen kilahdus inspiroi. 

Poluilla kulkevat vaatimattomat runoilijat, 

vain ne muutamat.

ROOTS IN CLAY

Paths lead to ditch's lap,

roads to Rome.

Picasso smiled

with his reddened lips,

in the lost garden witches living.

On the walls grand flying angels,

their wings of golden dust,

they feed my roots,

and the clay soil praising.

Grey eyes question the picture,

its surface is cracking.

The hand is shaking,

the bottle in the neighbor's stable hands,

my adventurous friend.

The village surrounded by gray stone fence,

it's my sanctuary, my muse,

a nymph released from fears.

JUURET SAVESSA

Polut vievät ojien syliin, 

tiet Roomaan. 

Picasso hymyili 

punatuilla huulillaan, 

kadonneessa puutarhassa asui noitia. 

Seinillä enkelit lentävät uhkeina, 

siivillä kultapölyä, 

ne ruokkivat juuriani, 

savinen maa kiittää.

Harmaat silmät epäilevät kuvaa, 

sen pinta säröilee.

Käsi tärisee, 

vakaana pulloa pitävät naapurin kädet, 

uskalias ystäväni. 

Kylää kiertää harmaa kiviaita, 

se on pyhättöni, muusani. 

peloista vapautettu nymfi.

INFERNO OF THE ARTIST

Inside my head

my birth whispers with a brush,

in shadows a faint face.

On the cottage wall a deer's head,

hanging from the door handle

a red skirt,

embroidered with cross stitches.

As my walk-in-closet the whole house,

veranda and a wooden sofa.

Marks and stains,

yellow, black, red,

the sky was left unpainted.

Fear created designs on the walls,

I sat without a move

so that my face would not be distorted.

The artist sighs loudly,

often.

TAITEILIJAN INFERNO

Pääni sisällä 

syntymäni kuiskii siveltimellä, 

sen varjoissa on hämärät kasvot. 

Piiilopirtin seinustalla hirvenpää, 

ulkovessan ovenkahvassa roikkuu 

punainen hame, 

kirjailtuna ristipistoin.

Vaatehuoneena talo, 

veranta ja puusohva. 

Läiskiä ja tahroja, 

keltaista, mustaa, punaista, 

taivas jäi maalaamatta.

Pelko loi mallit seinustoille, 

istuin hievahtamatta, 

ettei kasvokuvani olisi vääristynyt. 

Taiteilija huokaa ääneen, 

usein.

COLORS

Colors,

they speak the language

which I can't fail to hear,

they hit with hundreds of spikes

on a thin canvas,

they laugh and mock,

kick me forward,

I fall, I suffocate,

but the colors continue their course

over me, under me

vanishing and reappearing.

VÄRIT

Värit,

ne puhuvat kieltä 

jota en voi olla kuulematta, 

ne iskevät sadoilla piikeillään 

ohuella kankaalla, 

ne nauravat ja pilkkaavat, 

potkivat minua eteenpäin, 

kaadun, tukehdun, 

mutta värit jatkavat kulkuaan, 

ylitseni, alitseni, 

kadoten ja palaten.

Runokuu-viikon runovieraana Esther Helmiä

Kirjallisuusfestivaali Runokuu starttaa tänään Helsingissä. Teemana on tänä vuonna juuret. Runokuu-viikolla julkaisen yhden Estherin runon joka päivä. Kaikki runot ovat uusia, ja viisi on varta vasten tätä viikkoa varten kirjoitettu. Runot ovat nimiltään Juuret, Värit, Taiteilijan inferno, Juuret savessa, Runoilijan polut ja Polun loppu. Runokuun teemana on tänä vuonna juuret, joten aloitetaanpa niistä.

ROOTS

My roots, unbroken
circling, wheeling
disappear and rise
are alive right now
grow deeper and deeper

roots
my roots

they break the surface
cracking in arid soil
thousands of years are always reborn
disappear into the night,
into precipitation
the sun distorts the shadows

roots
my roots

still in me as yarn
as a colorless breeze
from blind faces of the past
that will look after me
behind me
in front of me
by the side
up
down

my roots.

JUURET

Juureni murtumattomat

kiertäen, pyörien 

katoavat ja nousevat

elävät juuri nyt

syvemmälle ja syvemmälle hakeutuvat

juuret

juureni

maan pintaa rikkovat

kuivassa halkeilevat

tuhansia vuosia aina uudelleen syntyvät

katoavat yöhön

sateeseen

aurinko vääristää varjot

juuret

juureni

yhä minussa lankana

värittömänä tuulahduksena

silmittömistä kasvoista

ne tulevat katsomaan

perääni

eteeni

sivulleni

ylös

alas

juureni.
