Friday Bliss #134 - Warm and Cozy Inside

The week has been chilly with wind, rain and wet snow. For Friday the weather forecast

promises strong storm. I have spent my time mainly inside reading and Sissi sleeping.

This is one of her hiding places where she can sleap peacefully.

During Easter I read this fantastic biography of Elin Danielson-Gambogi (1861-1919)

written by Salla Leponiemi. I’ll leave here the link, in case you want to read,

there is Google translator. Elin lived in a time when it was extremely difficult for a female

artist to get the deserved acknowledgement.

This excellent portrait of her friend Hilma was harshly critizised by Finnish art critics

but gained the bronce medal the next year in Paris world fair 1889.

While married to Italian painter Raffaello Gambogi her husband had a short love affair 

with Elin’s good Finnish friend. The red, post-marital crisis self-portrait from 1903

is described in the book in this way: 

The small but intense self-portrait continues the tradition of Renaissance: 

a tightly cropped bust, a focused gaze and clenched lips. The connection to history is reinforced 

by the red velvet of the dress, a privilege allowed to an authoritative man in Italy 

during the Renaissance. At the same time, the image introduces a modern, unbreakable woman 

looking at the viewer from above. She can't be broken down. 

Elin's eyes look tired, the nights without sleep have drawn traces around them, 

but the gaze speaks of mental strength and vitality.

Talvi - Winter

The theme of Makrotex is WINTER. March is a winter month in Finland, 

but lately there has been spring in the air: 

fabulous blue sky and sunshine, the snow is melting and the ground starts to show. 

Inside we have it warm and cosy, hygge a la Danish - and a cat in the box!

Every cat owner knows, that cats like to curl in small baskets and boxes.

Sissi has a good assortment of them and many times we have to search for her.

One day she was sleeping in this deep basket!

It is the first mild day of March . . .

Happens on my Desk

"In a cat's eye, all things belong to cats."

I had my amaryllis bouquet on my desk in my room where Sissi does not normally go.

One day she came and jumped on the desk and was very interested in the flowers!

She showed her teeth and was about to take a bite...

... and was so angry when I said no!

Fur Safe & Stripes

A few photos from my kitchen. We have a widening of the window sill

where Sissi keeps an eye on birds. It is covered with DC Fix, imitating weathered wood 

with stripes. Also the wooden blinds create stripes for Makrotex. The candles are fur safe, 

leds with batteries. Every extra light is needed in this November darkness.

My Little Sunshine

Makrotex asks for LAZY, so some thoughts about laziness. Is Sissi lazy or just relaxed? 

I think that Sissi’s purpose of life is to enjoy it, be cute and bring joy to our life.

The purpose of being of this big grey gnome is just to sit and spread joy.

Friday Bliss #109 - Cosy Times, Play Times

I am book blogger as well and the autumn feels like Christmas

- so many newly released books! I have made a lookalike of me in dollhouse size 1:12.

She is thrilled with all the books, but wonders where to find time to read!

At the moment my readings are mainly Finnish literature and 

The Helsinki Book Fair shall be only online at the end of October.

World Animal Day was celebrated last Sunday, October 4 which is the feast day of 

Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. The whole week is dedicated to the welfare of animals.

SEY, Animal Welfare Finland says there is an ongoing cat crisis in Finland. 

They estimate that at least 20,000 cats are abandoned in our country each year. 

Many families take a ’summer cat’ for their kids when they stay at their summer cottages 

the summer months. In the autumn many a cat is abandoned in the nature. 

SEY has publishd a leaflet Valuable Cat for the kids aiming to raise the cat’s value.

For me this kind of conduct is totally incomprehensible.

Now that our renovation is over, Sissi goes to sofa to sofa to sleep and relax.

She took this messy time well but is now happy & so content. We bought her a new climbing tree

to the living room - from high up it is good to keep an eye what is going on.

Colors of Black Chanterelle

Musta torvisieni / Craterellus cornucopioides / Horn of Plenty

It is also known as the black chanterelle, black trumpet, trompette de la mort (French), 

trombetta dei morti (Italian) or trumpet of the dead.

Today is World Animal Day and the theme in Finland is

VALUABLE CAT decided by SEY, Animal Wellfare Finland.

Sissi certainly is valuable and precious to me.
