Garden Glimpses

It has been a wonderful & hard-working garden week.

I have been out in the garden for hours every day. The garden looks lush & blooming.

This pink Syringa vulgaris blooms for the first time ❤︎ The shrub is still small,

grown from a small root sprout.

This clematis Albina plena brings also much joy.

Its flowers are like delicate butterflies ❤︎

It is green all over ❤︎

We have narrow paths leading around the house & garden.

Nice routes for the kitties to walk.

Tulips are starting to wither.

I have planted many planters of annual flowers and herbs, more of them later.

Above one evidence of our garden jobs. We have division of labour:

I cut always the branches and DH takes them to a garden waste point which is totally free. 

My garden is a fully grown garden and there are each year a huge amount of cut branches, 

too much to chip. In addition we get a lot of garden waste of the autumn leaves.

Rainy Garden Walk

The whole week has been unstable, rainy & windy with occasional sunshine.

Not very warm either. I walked through my wet garden this morning and 

took a few photos. As it was rainy, they are not bright.

My long lilac hedges steel the show this week - they look very beautiful.

I have also long hedges of Spiraea chamaedryfolia and they will soon be in full bloom.

Wish you have better weather than Finland!

Friday Bliss #38 - Fragrant Greeting

We have had cold nights and cold rainy days. My garden is lush & green like never before.
Another bright side of rain is that weeding has been easy. Damned goutweed!!!
It seems that my lilacs don’t bloom this year as abundantly as usual. They must have suffered
from the draught of last summer. But beautiful they are, with their lovely scent.

I have been out working in the garden as much as possible, watched ATP tennis
from Roland Garros, Paris and read Outline by Rachel Cusk. The 1st part of the trilogy
was a bit embarrassing, waiting for Transit in the library queue...

Friday Bliss #17 - Summer Green

i am sad to say that this stunning hedge of white Syringa josikae 

is not mine but my neighbour’s. It decorates my walking route at the end of June, 

is 4 meters high and full of flowers. A beautiful sight!

I don’t usually succeed in photographing butterflies but here a few photos of 

Peacock butterfly - to bring you summer mood.

Garden Week - Lilac Charm

I might put this week in two words - Lilac Charm! All my Syringa vulgaris  hedges are in full bloom and the fragrance is lovely. I have only one shrub in white and one in pink. But these pale purples I have plenty of. The shrubs are very tall and I have them growing on three sides around the house. The only care I give them is to cut dried branches.

Voisin kuvata kulunutta viikkoa parilla sanalla - Syreenien hurmaa!

Liilat pihasyreenit ovat aidanteissa täydessä kukassa. Minulla on vain yksi valkoinen 
ja yksi vaaleanpunainen, jonka juurivesoja istutin viime vuonna - hyvässä kasvussa ovat.
Ainoa hoito minkä nämä kaunottaret saavat, on kuivien oksien leikkaaminen.

It has been warm and sunny, fabulous actually but the nature would need a good rain. It is always so: weatherise no moderation at all. But I have enjoyed of the renovated terrace and seeing all plants starting to bloom. Summer life at its best - just wonderful!

Lämpöä ja aurinkoa on riittänyt; ihmisille hyvä, 

mutta luonto kaipaisi kipeästi kunnon sadetta. Säissä ei koskaan ole kohtuutta :)

Mutta olen nauttinut puutrhassa puuhailuista, syönyt ja lukenut kirjoja

kohennuksen kokeneella terassilla. Kesäelämää parhaimmillaan - ihanaa!

My friend grafted years ago Sorbus aucuparia 'Edulis' to an ordinary wild rowan.

The tree is huge and full of flowers and its berries are big & dark red!

Ystäväni varttoi vuosia sitten tavalliseen kotipihlajaan makeapihlajan oksan.

Puu on kasvanut upeaksi ja suureksi, ja se on täynnä kukkia!

Sen marjat ovat isoja ja meheviä & tummanpunaisia.

Among the lilacs there is growing Caragana arborescens.

Siperianherne luurailee syreenien välissä.
