Criorhina ranunculi (male). Bumblebee mimic , mostly black-haired but with red-tailed and white-tailed forms. Swollen, strongly arched hind femur contracts strongly with slender, straight hind femur of other Criorhina.

Xylota segnis (male). Both sexes have strong isolated erect black spines on ventral surface of hind femur for most of its length. Males have a long spur on the underside of hind trochanter.

Criorhina floccosa (male). Long tufts of white hair at front corner of tergite 2.

Xylota sylvarum (male). Dense covering of adpressed golden hairs on tergite 4 is characteristic.

Syritta pipiens (male). Sides of thorax strongly dusted. Hind femera greatly swollen.

Pocota personata. Has a particularly small head (about half the width of thorax including hairs).

Criorhina berberina f. oxyacanthae (female). This variety is brown-haired throughout its thorax and abdomen. Thorax is also more brightly hued than typical form. It similar to floccosa but abdomen lacks areas of conspicuous dusting. Actophila is more similar in field but it has a plumose arista and a dark patch on the wing below the stigma.

Criorhina berberina (female). Typical form is brown-haired on most of thorax and hind part of abdomen, with intervening body being black-haired (cf. variety oxyacanthae).

Tropidia scita (male). Swollen hind femera. Males have orange/red lateral margins on tergites 2 & 3. Females usually have these reduced to paired spots.

Caliprobola speciosa (male). Dark green metallic abdomen with a band of golden hairs across the base of tegites 2, 3 & 4. Long legs which are bright orange on tarsi, tibiae and tips of femora. Face, frons and antennae are also orange, as are wings in the front half, turning to dark brown at the wing tip.

Brachypalpus laphriformis (male). Mining bee mimic. Hairy thorax, abdomen only sparsely so. Abdomen black but sometimes with orange at sides of tergites 1 & 2.

Criorhina asilica (female). More narrowly built than three other Chriorhinas. Abdomen glossy black with paired bars of orange or grey dusting on tergites 2, 3 and often 4. Tergite 1 densely grey-dusted throughout.
