This composition is faithfully reproduced as drawing no. 8 in Claude's Liber Veritatis, where he kept a record of each of his major paintings in an effort to prevent forgeries. The verso of the drawing is inscribed in Claude's hand: "Claudio fecit in VR," and below it, "faict pour paris" (Claude made it in the city of Rome for Paris)
