Fed up with gambling ads

Gambling ads for horse racing have really stepped up a level, with seeing nicely dressed and groomed attractive men at a racecourse cheering on their favourite horse, well the one they hope will win.

However, I am fed up with seeing the ads on YouTube and after a quick search, I found I can get rid of them.

This works for YouTube if you are using Google and logged in. Go here, https://myadcenter.google.com/customize and click the 'Sensitive' tab.

Musical Monday

This is a first class Flashdance. I had no intention of watching more than a minute, but I sat transfixed. The video was filmed in Paris.

What a dame

Patricia Routledge has died at the age of 96. One can't grieve too much over a peaceful death at that age. What a trooper she was, from theatre including musicals, to film and tv.

Most of us will remember her from Keeping up Appearances, where she played Hyacinth Bucket. Gay men straight away picked up on the humour, and used lines like, 'Don't brush against my walls', "Would  you like your coffee in a hand painted periwinkle cup?" "Best you have a beaker". "How much Sheriden? Talk to your father." "Mind the pedestrian, Richard", as someone opened their front door.

Of course I need a Hyacinth clip to add to this post.

A wee rant

There are a number of YouTube clips showing Trump voting Americans in great distress as his policies come into force. Once clip I saw showed a Trump voting woman in tears and praying, and asking for prayers, because the father of children and his mother were being deported to Venezuela by ICE.

Another farmer of a large agricultural property said her farming staff had all disappeared and were not coming to work in fear of ICE, and deportation. She thinks her farm will go into bankruptcy, yet she voted for Trump.

There are clips of an almost empty Las Vegas. Canadians are not visiting Florida, and are selling their properties there, getting rid of US timeshares, as one blogmate has done.

There are clips about Canada withholding super phosphate from the US, that is its farmers. While I disapprove of Canada PM's backing down over payments for digital technology, apparently Canada has been working hard to diversify its economy, reaching out and into the rest of the world. What ever the **** rare earth magnets are, they are essential in this modern world and China, being the major supplier,  has stopped exporting them to the US.

Some of these clips show a sense of glee about how the US is seemingly collapsing.

Very reputable news sites, including conservative organisations, are calling out #47's ridiculous claims of how well the US economy is travelling.

Whatever the truth, I too feel glee about Trump supporters suffering, and those who may have voted Democrat, if they got off their arses and actually voted.

But for all of you who voted Democrat, and as is said after school gun shootings, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Seriously, you decent US citizens have my empathy and sympathy, and I'm not judging you by what #47 and his henchfolk are doing.

Quiz Fail and Win

Not smugly, no not at all, I was too young to really know The Beatles. I did buy Paul McCartney's Wings album, but that was my only love of The Beatles. Of course everyone knows some Beatles music. My Beatle ignorance was reflected my zero score in this week's  YP's quiz. A couple of quizzes before, I scored 7/10 in his Famous Women quiz.

Last week I bragged to my Dead in Bed Neighbour when I messaged her, that for the first time I scored 10/10 for The Age newspaper Victorian topical quiz. There are four options in the drop down boxes. The answer to the question about Bright was a plausible guess.

Still with The Age, each week since the quiz' inception I have participated in its weekly opinion poll. There is some kind of prize, valued at around $100 as I remember, but I've never won it.

The poll is not general opinion, because readers of The Age are more educated than the general populace, more socially progressive, wealthier, and have a general care about society. They are less religious, but that's from a fairly low base anyway. They are older and feel the threat of street crime. Mostly there is no question to ask myself when answering, but at times there a 'but?'.

I voted with the majority in every question in these polls, but I wanted to qualify my answer about YouTube being available to kids, because parents or carers can already restrict children to only watching YouTube for Kids. Had that been mentioned, I would have changed my answer.

Balloons pass by

I had forgotten about these balloon photos. I don't like to boast but they aren't too bad at all. The balloonists that morning had a great show.

A shocking train crash

It was a long time ago when I posted about the local Sunshine train crash back in 1908. I was reminded of it when I recently came across this memorial plaque at Sunshine Station.

You can read about the detail on Wikipedia, and here is a snip.

The Sunshine rail disaster occurred on 20 April 1908 at the junction at Sunshine railway station (in SunshineVictoriaAustralia) when a Melbourne-bound train from Bendigo collided with the rear of a train from Ballarat. 44 people were killed and over 400 injured, almost all of them from the Ballarat train, as the Bendigo train was cushioned by its two locomotives.[2]

It is the second worst train disaster in Australia after the much later 1977 Granville train crash with 83 killed. Nowadays, train crashes are so rare here, and deaths even rarer.

Removed, it didn't work.

I worked on this for a long time, simply to find the audio, upload it and somehow place it here. Hence no post yesterday. I think it will work but truly, you are better to go to the website and just click play, and the lyrics are there too.

AI is coming to get you

Have you noticed comments on your blog written by AI? Or have you recognised AI writing?

Melody Jacob is one such person but I can't get my head around her purpose. While her blog has advertising, it does seem like a personal blog. I am sure the comments she sprinkles around on blogs are AI written, and perhaps her posts are too.

Those of you who are quite literate can probably pick AI writing...at the moment. It will get better, until we won't know the difference between what the human brain writes and what AI writes, and it won't take very long for this to happen.

Evan Edinger is a very accomplished YouTuber. I am not so keen on his rapid fire delivery but it is clear he puts a lot of work into his clips. He's from New Joisy (😉@Boud) Jersey but has lived in England for many years.

I would not normally watch a fifteen minute clip about something like AI, but this was well worth my while, and it may be for you too to get a better understanding of AI writing.

Memorable tv ads

Cadbury gorilla in the air tonight. NOT AI but still fake.

Yellow Pages Not happy Jan (This phrase, Not Happy Jan, really slipped into Australian lingo)

Louie the fly. Nowadays, this tv ad might make the kiddies cry. Poor Louie!

\

TDK. Was it some type of purgative that would do amazing things to your system? I expect my straight male readers might like this ad.

Last but not least, if you are entertaining an Australian overseas and want to see them cry, give them a couple of cans of beer to drink, or an extra strong voddy and tonic, a schnapps, a sake or a bourbon then play this tv ad to them. Contrary to to the nonsense of politicians proclaiming we are the best country in the world, we do like to call Australia home, even if most of us don't think it as being the best country in the world. I hate to think how much this ad cost.

Updates

I am so annoyed. Where have all the short Jacque Tati clips gone? They are now too long for your attention spans. I found this one to give you a taste. I posted so many Jacque Tati clips to my old blog, many years ago. Some of you will remember this one. Who is my longest blog mate? I really don't know. I can eliminate many, but not narrow it down further. If you were reading my old blog before 2010, speak up. I'd really like to know.

Speaking of long time bloggers, who no long longer blog, (ok, I wasn't) I am pleased to tell you I received a message from Jennie this week via Insta, she also known as Jah Teh and Copperwitch. She is now only allowed one hour a day at the computer.

Screams came from the bedroom this morning as Kosov mummified Phyllis. "Kosov, he is no help to me if he is mummified. Set him free". I wanted my butter chicken for dinner. The spice level was perfect. They had bought a new laptop the night before and Kosov had lost his wallet. He went back to the big blue shed and they had it. I seemed more worried about the lost wallet than they were. Lordy, the children!!!

Remember the $500 in Ray's bank account. I was gearing myself up to call the bank about it after sending a stern email, but when I checked my bank app today, there was the money, in the special account set up for the purpose. I immediately transferred it to my savings account. Lol at me ever saving money.

I printed out an ad to to put on the public notice board to sell my old microwave. $50, cheap for a perfect machine, with a crisping feature. I mentioned it was 650watts. Buyer beware.

A pub dinner tomorrow, Saturday night with some friends. Apparently I have some.

My Tasmania friend is back home but in hospital after a Hawaiian cruise, 70% of the passengers came down with a respiratory infection.  The mother of her ex did not return to Australia, but is in a Hawaii hospital with pneumonia. Nah to cruising for me from now and no long flights.

Friday Fun

These are a couple of clips that I just came across, that I thought were interesting, that I accidently downloaded, that I downloaded.

I would expect a slim guy to be able to do this, not this quite solid guy. Clearly he is all muscle. Quite amazing, and as the audience is doing, I would give him a good clap.

I don't know that I approve of this guy's suggestive dancing. Nevertheless, he is rather nice. What are you saying? There is another guy in the clip? Sorry, I did not notice him. You know me well enough to know which one my focus was drawn to.

A nothing kind of post

I haven't come across anything hilarious this week for a Friday Funny. Only the mildly amusing.

From what I can see,  as usual (see capybara, see One way Ticket to the Moon) I've missed the boat on what young people have been up to. Apparently last year it was Blue Monday. Ok, while checking some detail, I realised I posted about the same dance once before, ten days before my life changed forever. Never mind, a bit of fun.

Friday Funnies

League of Gentlemen was a British tv show. Rather than make you laugh, it was very good at making you feeling uncomfortable.

This is not the worst. I wasn't sure if to post the original or this one by the US guy made while watching it. I thought the guy watching it was worthwhile.

Someone, somewhere mention the English comedian Harry Enfield, who is unknown to me, and down the rabbit hole I went. Close to two hours later, this clip grabbed my attention. The woman's brain made me laugh heartily. Lol at the first mention of BBC (try Urban Dictionary, if you don't know), and towards the end, I was surprised he didn't know the name of the most famous media broadcaster in the world, BBC.

Friday, kind of Funnies

What can I find on information super highway to amuse you. Sorry about the brief watermarks. I need to find a better downloader.

I was looking for some cockatoos being very funny, but I couldn't find very much, however I did come across this vaguely related piece, that certainly made me laugh. While he may have it ready to say, I don't think she knew it was coming.

This is not funny, but ever so clever at changing the lyrics to the famous Gloria Gaynor song, with thanks to Jackie of Toronto where I saw it first. Nice work.

Friday Extra

I came across this US YouTuber Adam Mockler and I sat mesmerised for an hour. While in some ways I think he is a bit too clever for his own good, he does nail it, in clip after clip. I love that in such a short time, chickens are coming home to roost for #47 voters.

And speaking of the US, I was not alone when I thought bad thoughts about the murder of Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthCare. He led a truly evil company, and according to polls, some 41% of young people under the age of 30 thought the murder was 'acceptable'.

Viva la Economic Black Out Day.

Happy Valentines Day

I was given a card, a single red rose and a letter opener (long story) this morning by my tenants.

I dedicate this to Phyllis and Kosov. Young love is wonderful to observe.

Friday Funny

The comedian who recorded what is being played on the car sound system is one Tim Hawkings but I felt like American comedian Bob Newhart would have done it better. Whatever, it made me laugh.

Err, Tim Hawkins is American, but this clip is in a right hand drive car. I think the clip might be Australian.

The accent

Not my strange accent but the Australian wog accent. Yes, wog and I use the word in a respectful manner as this post would be lacking without the word. You could call it an Australian Mediterranean accent. Think Greece and Italy. It is delightful and I find it rather stimulating, if you get my drift. It comes with promise of exciting times.

The accent is dying out and not heard so often now. Nowadays the newborn of immigrants speak with an Australian accent by the time they become adults. It wasn't so with the Mediterraneans. The first Australian generation developed their own accent. If you memory is first class, I did mention about hearing a school student from a lower socio economic area on a tram saying, 'And he arsed me to give him the answer'.

This clip is just a bit amusing but the performer gives a great example of the Aussie wog accent.

Hot in Australia

Australia can become very hot, less so in southern Australia where I live, but I have experienced a day of 44 degrees in I think 2009. The hot northerly wind comes in, blowing very hot air from central Australia to the south, even to our island state, Tasmania, in the extreme south. Generally the very high temperatures don't come with humidity. It is a hot dry wind.

The melting thongs in this clip are a slight exaggeration, but I've certainly walked on asphalt that had become sticky in the heat. I've experienced all the rest.

Phone Museum

Lots of photos and I hope you enjoy the memories.

A new museum opened in Hawthorn, a local area known as Glenferrie. There used to be one at the old Richmond Post Office.

Summary of activities

We operate museums in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, which maintain heritage telecommunications of national significance. We provide programs and educational tours for schools as well as the general public in the area of telecommunications.

It is called the National Communication Museum and is appropriately located in an old telephone exchange (putting you through now caller).

I certainly remember these public phones. Earlier phones had you rolling a coin into a slot. Press button A to load your coin to speak. Press button B to retrieve your coin if your call did not connect. I recall button B made a kind of buzz noise as it returned your non existent coin. Is below a typewriter with circular typing keys?

We had an Ericofon. You had to be careful when on a call and you put the phone down, as sitting it upright would cut the call.

This phone was a bit of fun.

An inert phone exchange board.

A very active phone exchange board whereby you plug in cords and operate switches that made many different noises.

Oh yes. I was more attractive in the 1990s and I remember sending naughty photos using one of these web cams.

It doesn't seem so long ago.

This does. They keys were fairly light touch.

A proper Post Master General phone box.

They were soundproofed and the interior painting was I guess to deter graffiti.

James, each person must weigh 79kg.

The building was nice enough but across the road was the old Post and Telegraph Office.

A very nice building.

This was rather trippy to enter.

A Marconi cypher machine.

A code breaker, I think.

I was there and it was wonderful to see the internet bloom, though so frustrating at times. Apparently one of these computers makes the internet phone lone connection sound, but the area was so busy, I couldn't find out which one.

I remember this phone style but they were rare.

Ohh, some of these look very familiar.

I was once an avid fan of phone banking, and paying bills by phone was so simple.

An old candlestick phone so often seen in mid twentieth century American films.

The entry fee wasn't cheap, at something like $25 but an annual pass was a bargain and I rather wish I'd bought to revisit.

I filmed some short videos. The first is surveillance cameras, with Big Brother watching you.

The second is, would you believe, is a talking clock machine. "At the third stroke, it will be 5.02 am and ten seconds."

The third is a creepy robot lady I was a little scared of. She did not seem aware of people as obstacles, so people stepped out of the way. Had they not, maybe she would have diverted around them.

Marysville 1
