Nach vier Singles („Vier Jahreszeiten“) und einer halben EP („Gewäsch“, Split mit Dirty Dishes), erscheint nun das Debütalbum von FRAU LEHMANN. Die Platte mit 12 Liedern heißt „TROST & TROTZ“. FRAU LEHMANN haben sich gefragt, was die Welt jetzt brauchen könnte, und werfen mal diese beiden Vorschläge ins Rennen. Auf Seite A der Platte findet sich der TROST, beispielsweise in einem beschwingten „Fuß im Grab“, dem selbstverständlichen Herbeiwünschen der „Melancholia“ und der wütenden Anklage eines Künstler*innendaseins mit Lohnarbeit in „DLF Kultur will dass wir brennen“. Seite B ermutigt zum TROTZ: eine „Alte Leier“ verwandelt sich in eine urvertraute Melodie im Inneren, „Rastloses Getier“ schält sich „Wenn es abends endlich dämmert“ aus den schweißgetränkten Laken, und zum Schluss dröhnt ein „Testament“ als Manifest des Abschließens und Neuanfangs aus den Lautsprechern. In den mal tanzbaren, mal lyrischen Liedern geht es immer wieder um den Tod. Alle sind sie lebensbejahend und hell. Der Umgang mit Veränderungen, im Großen und im Kleinen, im Sozialen und im ganz Privaten, steht im Zentrum des Albums, das einer Dramaturgie der Entwicklung zu folgen scheint. Nachdenken über das Ende von Dingen, ohne Resignation, ohne Pathos.
Der Gitarrist der Band, Toni Günther, hat den Livesound des Quartetts in eine souveräne, satte und dynamische Produktion überführt. Gesang, Gitarren, Bass und Schlagzeug bilden das Fundament der Songs. Percussion vom Schlagzeuger Felix Kothe und Raffinessen wie Mundharmonika, Klarinette, Synth- und Orgelspuren sorgen für dezente Lebendigkeit. Nicht zuletzt auch Gastchöre von Annette Simons, Romy Jakovcic, Marlena Käthe, Bedroom June sowie eine Gasttrompete von Karlo Wenzel. Ganz im Vordergrund stehen die Texte und Phrasierung von Fiona Lehmann. Hörbare Einflüsse sind Hildegard Knef, Nina Hagen, aber auch Christiane Rösinger, Stella Sommer oder Melanie. Fiona Lehmanns Texte und Gesang sind vor allem aber noch etwas: ganz eigen. Enyang Urbiks hat das Album gemastert und zu einer warmen Einheit verbunden. Wer eine High-Fidelity-Schallplattenanlage hat, kommt voll auf seine Kosten. Das Artwork ist von Bassist Philipp Orlowski gestaltet, der auch Zeichnungen im Booklet beisteuert.
