Shrine Song 01:41

about

“Once upon a time, there was somewhere between 20 and 40 kobolds living in a crawlspace under a tavern…

One day they accidentally played a song so good, they were like “ok we NEEEEED a raydio sHow”

The tavernkeeper strongly disagreed, but this is the last time they show up in this story.

The kobolds ran out and pestered every living wishing well in the woods to grant their crawlspace radio wish.

One particularly sensitive wishing well eventually caved:

“FINE OKAY. But if I ever tune in and nothing’s playing, then no more radio for you.”

And the Crawlspace kobolds noisily rejoiced.

When they returned to the tavern, a radio tower had sprouted from the earth. Crawlspace got to work, banging out the tunes.

Unsure if the wishing well was listening like all the time or what, they invited all sorts of creatures on the air to keep the show constantly on air.

SO MANY CREATURES. It was fun, but it was much work. It was all they did.

Then…

One morning, a groovy but mysterious signal blocked the airwaves. Crawlspace Radio was silent…

Crawlspace frantically searched the snowy woods for the signal’s source.

Imagine a montage of this^^

Okay now stop. They found it. It was the myconids having a melding festival under a frozen lake

Crawlspace was furious. “Kwit meLdeeng!!!” they shrieked.

The myconids embraced all 20 to 40 members of Crawlspace, sang to them, and took them on the uh mycological journey of a lifetime.

Afterwards, Crawlspace saw a baby elk playing in the snow and thought…

“A raydio sHow iz NOT wurth misSing ouT on liife. Notheeng kood be.”

For the rest of winter, they danced with their friends and broadcast their show when they wanted to, luvving it.

Then, on the first day of Spring, while Crawlspace splashed around at Picnic Pond, the wishing well began to thaw…

When it unfroze, it tuned into Crawlspace Radio. To NOTHING, not a single scrunkly melody. The deal had been broken.

And so the wish was revoked. The radio tower fell and became a shrine to a mostly wonderful time.

But Kobolds are crafty, and very good at pestering wishing wells, so who knows what they might wish up next…
