wow! what a beauty this is! brilliant melodic death doom! I had never heard of this which is kind of a tragedy. I'll make sure to spend enough time with this album to catch up

Funere presents the announcement of the upcoming album.
In Loving Memory was incorporated in August 2005 by Juanma (guitar), Jorge (guitar), Raúl (bass) & Aitor (drums). After having a gothic female vocalist and record a demo-cd, Juanma took the duty of vocals and the band started its own unique melodic doom/death metal sound that led into two studio albums “Tragedy & Moon” (self-released) and “Negation of Life”. With the addition of Alberto (keyboards) and Igor (drums) replacing Aitor, the band released a melodic death metal EP, “Redemption”.
In 2015 Raúl & Igor left the band and the remaining musicians, Juanma, Jorge & Alberto decided to start the writing process and the recording of what would be the third full length album, “The Withering”, and the evolution of the band to a melancholic & progressive doom/death veil. In 2017 Txerra joint the band as bass player, just in time to record his portion of the album. The drums on this recording were arranged by Jorge and Igor.
The Withering is presented as a conceptual album focusing on the decadence & annihilation of humanity due the most probable causes: natural catastrophes, pandemics, humanity’s own actions, etc. Each song tells a story about one of those causes and how to struggle with suffering, death, fears, hopes and face the inevitable end.
In the musical aspect, the band grew up to a more open & progressive sound but with the original melodic doom/death parts that earned the status of “underground cult band” in the past by some specialized media & fans, with strong rhythm section and melancholic melodies accompanied by dual vocal performance, guttural and whispers. Not the typical doom band. Not the usual melodic death metal record. Not the expected progressive combo. So, what is “The Withering”?
It is a complex music painting that combines all the personal experiences, efforts and sufferings of the members of the band collected from very difficult and dark years, in order to create something that has a lot of nuances and drops from different metal styles in a mid-tempo record that is almost 80 minutes long encapsulated on what we can call “melancholic doom/death metal”.
“The Withering” was completely recorded by ILM members and in 2021 the band hired Koba Studios to achieve the mix and master of an album that will be released by Funere label in January 2022.
The artwork, as in previous releases, was made by Juanma “Xykhron”, trying to reflect in each page of the booklet, the sensations and the feelings of the music &lyrics, so the album can obtain the most suitable packaging for the concept beneath this album.
The current line-up is as follows:
Juanma “Xykhron” B. - vocals & lead guitars
Jorge A. - rhythm guitars
Txerra G. - bass
Alberto D. - keyboards

Beautiful songs with awesome breaks and a punk attitude. Bet these guys listened to some Clash or Sex Pistols at some point.
Agree with other comments about good mix of atmospherics with edginess.
Overall makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside 👹 imprint

Doom metal in tone and lyrics steeped in a dark, haunting world. Wicked cover art to magnify this sweet, sweet blackened treat. Abigorum grows stronger by the day.

Here's to some more cosmic metal, the Karlsruhe based outfit offers crude yet extremely well produced sound in this earlier effort.
Featuring mid-tempo cadences, occasional blast beating, high pitched shrieking essentially, the riffing has this mildly meaty, sensational over-atmospheric tilt that's always well received on my part.
The perspective of getting sucked into a wormhole had never felt better I kid you not.
Emperor and Inherits the Void in mind, you just can't skip this one. doive
