In 2018, Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity supported Susanne Sundfør on her Music for People in Trouble tour, and the sold-out shows at Barbican Center in London were of the extra memorable variety. Not only did the evenings result in one of the best Norwegian live albums of all time (by Sundfør), however the live recordings of Acoustic Unity (Gard Nilssen - drums; Petter Eldh - bass; André Roligheten - saxophone) were too good not to be shared. This amazing trio of Scandinavian star power turn ten this year, and the sound of free and improvisational music in a tête-à-tête with brutalist architecture and a magnetic audience, offers jazz aesthetics of the rare kind. A worthy celebration.
