Caring for a garden is a testament of determination. Tomorrow and Ecdysis' garden is a testament of love. Nestled inside of the forest, a little further south east from the workshop, their 5 acre garden utilizes the natural landscape to grow vegetables, fruit trees, annuals and perennials every season. It makes a great environment for animals to shelter in, new varieties of food to be bred, and researching the landscape of the planet that many residents of the Workshop are new to calling "home".
A creek that strikes the heart of it allows them to irrigate the crops without moving far, and makes for a relaxing jacuzzi in the spring and summer months. Magnolia, pear, fig and oak trees line the riverbed to give necessary shade to the fish and insects living below. A multicultural planting style allows for plants like beans, sunflowers, and corn to act as natural trellises for cucumbers, melons, and squash, which then give shade to the shorter peppers, tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes to thrive. Herbs like dill, basil and mint deter pests naturally, while bushes of oregano and parsley line the rows to look pretty. Artichokes, garlic, spinach, and lettuce add bright greenery to the area. Blackberry and blueberry bushes become a barrier for the garden beds, and strawberries weave in between their branches, growing identical copies of themselves in every patch they reach. Apple, orange, peach, and mango trees are littered throughout, giving a place for creatures to stay safe from the weather. And most importantly, all of these things give wonderfully fresh fruit for the Workshop residents for, generally, 8 months out of the year.
To celebrate their relationship, Ecdysis and Tomorrow have used the space as an inspiration for their newest EP, "diffusion garden". A house/jazz/footwork fusion of sweetened melodies and deep rhythms, it serves as a reminder that spending time with nature is as healing as any medicine and therapy can be. The only thing they'd like to tell listeners? Take care of your environment, and your life will be as harmonious as it is.
