Gerardo Torres Castro

Software Engineer & Carpenter — Brooklyn, NY

I'm a software engineer on Pinecone's database team working on query path internals. Previously: geospatial search for renewable energy siting at Paces; distributed database observability at Cockroach Labs; and Rust developer tooling at Facebook.

I'm interested in databases, distributed systems, and programming languages. I'm working on Ivy, a small statically-typed functional language with Hindley-Milner type inference. I love Linux, FreeBSD, (Neo)Vim, and free software in general. Free as in Freedom.

Outside of software, I do carpentry and woodworking. I spend most of my free time playing soccer, listening to music, thrifting, reading, and biking around the city.
